Hey guys I found some copies of this today at a goodwill among tons of old PC games. Couldn't find much online but from what I've read this might be pre-release for magazines or other reviewers? Also read that there are some differences from the final games? Every copy I bought has a Microsoft product key on the back printed on a yellow sticker which looks exactly like what is on a Microsoft OS disc. If anyone has any input or info it would be appreciated thanks guys!!!!
Sounds very interesting. Any chance that you could share an ISO through MEGA? And at least a product key if needed for the disk too.
As far as I can tell from the little research I've done on that disc its pretty much exactly the same as the regular game except for a few shaders or something. The title Marketing Gold would mean that the disc is in the Gold part of release cycle which is when its complete and the Marketing part would mean it was sent off to media, reviewers and such. No clue what it is actually worth though.
Thanks guys! Actually trying to get it running right now. Installer ran fine now I'm just trying to get it too boot on win7... I know I've had the first halo installed on this PC in the past but now I'm having issues. Even with windows xp compatibility.
Win 7 64bit. I ended up getting it working but had to apply a patch released by bungie for win7 compatibility. Didn't notice anything different from final Version of the game. Atleast from what I can remember of the first game.
Remember it might be shader related stuff. Does it by chance look better than a regular version of the same game? Also I have the retail version working under Win10 without any special fixes from bungie, so is the issue specific to Win7 but not Win8/10?
Funny you say that I did think it looked awesome and much better then I remembered but thought it was just because I was so hyped about it
I'm aware that that patch would change the game. from what I had read about it though as I thought it would only apply to the gamespy fixes and compatibility issues they were having. But yeah the real test will be when I have an older machine set up. just don't have the time for it at the moment.
I have previous modding experience with the halo games back to halo pc, and xbox. Originally the process to convert pc maps to xbox had issues with the shaders on pc and xbox being different. I wonder if there are any tag difference in comparison to retail halo for pc. My guess if it was gold at the time and a promotional disk it could just be retail. I'd start first by looking at the campaign levels and look through some tags maybe?
I recently came across one at a goodwill as well I had to pick it up. And if those replying to this thread or viewing it know anything more about it please let us know.
