Looks like I'm gunna spoil some fun here. The beta sucks, big time. I'll give you a run down why. The mongoose, looks awesome, drives like a dam terd. You loose a lot of speed for hitting small bumps, if you drive, then stop, sometimes you get "stuck" and the only way to drive it around again is if you get out, smack it, and get back in. The flame thrower still has some h1 bitmaps, it does 0 damage to anything, and the flame is small as hell. The crosshair on turrets, is not centered properly, so when it spins when you fire it, it wobbles all over the place. There is a weapon that freezes the game, a bunch of other stuff as well I can't remember. The way I got to play the maps was very hacky. I basically wrote the scenario and a few other values of my "target" map to memory, then triggered a map reset and bam.
Man so many awesome things in it too, you have the single shot zoomed BR all the turret animations are really nice too, the crosshair spins on the warthog depending on how fast the turret is spinning.
Tyler, It's a multiplayer beta. The campaign lobby is disabled, and no campaign maps are included. Awhile back I used Visual Studio 2003, IDA, and some memory tools in a personal attempt to unlock atleast offline system link play. I used VS2003 for real realtime debugging and some old Xbox memory tool to search for what was setting off the blocks, etc etc. Eventually I gave up, but it was also my first time trying such a thing. I'm a bit wiser now, so I might give it another shot just for the hell of it one of these days. A few of us do have the proper XBE's, but you're going to have to get a bit farther along and a bit more established before they'll probably be bequeathed by anyone that has them ;o. The fact that you've got a debug unit and have actual use for them may speed the process up though. -Doom
People forced a map to load on either of the maps to make it playable on retail, a real time memory hack, so its defineatley possible
Well i'm sure its possible i'm just not the kind of person to figure it out.. I guess i'll just keep looking around
Yep, I've got an old application that would do exactly that for the H2B. It's what I used till I was given the reworked XBE's. And Digi, there's not much to keep searching for, everything you're looking for is privately held and/or unreleased. I've been down the same road so so long ago. It's not the people, it's just the harsh reality of this 'obscure' scene. Good luck, -Doom
Great to know.. well I guess i'm done then, thanks for all the answers and i'll leave it at that. *sigh*
Then why don't you run it for him? Bragging that you have the ultimate solution for someones problem and then telling them haha your beat, i have it and you don't, well... that's just mean. why not just say nothing instead? and digi, sondow has the beta, ask him for help, as he seems like a helpfull kind of guy, he might have reconffigered xbe.
Because when I gave it to him I told him not to give it to anyone. Plus I told Digi the technical details behind it and Leo said he saw it, so it came into discusion. But he got the beta running now. Hope your not as dissapointed as I was.
I'm a little disappointed and I thought you meant you gave me the xbe.. becuase that is 100% incorrect :icon_bigg
Haha, but it was done in realtime bud, the program doesn't patch or modifiy a physical XBE. I actually don't know if I still have the program, but I didn't/don't intend to brag about some simple files either. Like everyone else here, we all start from the bottom and work our way up, it's a learning experience. You have to gradually work your way up in a seemingly complex place like this. People don't just get spoonfed unreleased XBE's & tools every day, espcially not here... from what I've seen atleast. I was hoping he'd ATLEAST give a shot at figuring out a way to maybe load the maps on his own accord, but flat out giving up shouldn't yield one with rewards. One can't get anywhere in the world just by sitting and doing absolutely nothing, and that's what I'm really trying to say. I really don't want to argue about this anymore, every thread here in the MS sections on assembler always seem to boil down to pointless bickering and flamewars between various members. Let's just be done with it, he got what he wanted, and that's that, w/e. -Doom
