Yeah, the Saturn Japan launch wasn't that great I guess, but at least in early 1995 there was Panzer Dragoon and Daytona USA which were better than anything the PS1 had at the time.
Better put your money down mate. I had one 1 day after the Japanese release. It cost me 550 pounds with Virtua Fighter. man, people were mad back then. PlayStation was about 600 pounds. Anyway, I was one of the first to have one and at the time worked in HMV. I had it set up behind the games counter running a demo disc from the Saturn Super magazine and Virtua Fighter. Ah, they were the days. So, where's my money :110: Yakumo
Oh I missed the day, poor saturn wont be happy. Well, there will still be time to turn this baby tonight. Back around european release, a friend of my brother had one and they played the shabby first virtua fighter all the time. Didnt take long till all the graphic whores ditched the units untouched capabilitys and everyone went onboard the playstation ship. Took me around 6 years after the launch till I could snatch one. A used one of course I took careful care over it, and over the years it grew to be one of my favourite three consoles. Ironicly, ever since I have gotten into japanese saturn gaming, I hate my ps1. Since a long while I have it running permanently on Japanese settings. So jumpers set and 60hz running. What a vibrant RGB picture! It also seems to be one of the very late model 1 units, with a late revision motherboard. All I can say is, live long and prosper! ray: (Ps: As pictured, Zero 2 is most of the time hanging around and in my saturn, and often im at the verge of orgasm with this game. Oh boy, cant wait to afford the 4mb ram card games :dance
Haha! Yesterday I was looking up how I can 50/60hz switch my PAL model 1 Saturn and today I did the mod, was playing Zero 3 earlier. Although my model 2 JP Saturn is the one that sits under my TV.
I was an avid PlayStation 1 fan back in like 94/95 or whenever i got my PS1 and i never knew anyone who had a Saturn back then as most of my friends had an N64, PlayStation or both. I finally managed though to get a Saturn this year after i had wanted one for a few years now but just never bought one and i really like it, need to get some more decent games at some point. So happy birthday Saturn the console i never owned/knew much about as a kid but wish i had at least played it more back then.
Saturn software library for launch paled in comparisson with the Psx one, that's true, and just by that, Saturn suffered stupid and retarded criticism and comparissons. Technically mind-blowing (better with real effort than Psx and kicks N64 in some aspects), oh, and really fine hi-fi construction by the way,, early model1 ones are still working flawless.
The complexity of the motherboard is really astounding for it's time. Sadly only a handful of talented programmers took full advantage of the dual processor.
*sniff sniff* And to think I was like eight years old asking for my parents to get me a Saturn to upgrade my aging Genesis (that I still play more than anything really when you throw in the SCD and 32X.) I still remember my cousin bringing his Saturn to my grandparents' house and playing Panzer Dragoon and Clockwork Knight. I remember that they eventually broke it and it ended up laying in his old room at his house. Poor thing. And as I got older and reached the end of my high school career, I discovered just how badass this console really is and how much we missed out buying it for slashed 90% off prices in its last day. *hugs it*
well at least you bought it. I had a short but strong thing going on with the Saturn and many of its games are so good I m afraid to touch them, else they ll suck up all my time. I d love to go through Panzer Dragoon Saga once more though... still waiting for remake news before I do though
I want to play PDS soooo badly... but I'm poor and don't have a modchip. And my laptop can't run SSF fullspeed.
