    To continue about the dev.cas:
I've started digging in the jap. SDK 1.55 again, and found that the application NJViewer (\dc_graph\graphPC\apply\NinjaViewer) already supported the Dev.Cas in 1.55J:
"NJViewer supports both the "Dev.Box" and the "Dev.Cas". Unless it is specified otherwise, you can replace "Dev.Box" by "Dev.Cas" in all the texts that mention "Dev.Box".

    With NJViewer, you can:
    - view Models & animations
    - view textures
    - adjust & view the fog settings

Support for the Dev.Cas already started with NJViewer version 0.95alpha3 (01/04/99), three months before the release of SDK 1.55J

It should work with 5.24, but:
    - you have to realize that 1.55J is way older than R11
    - because of this, some programs might not work correctly if you have flashed your devkit with the most recent firmware...

    Comparison of the two:
Katana SDK R11 Beta February 27, 2001 for SET 5.24
    Boot Rom (btr*.bin) : 1.011
    GDM Firmware (gm*.fsh) : 2.9.1b
    GD Workshop : 2.9.0R
    DA Firmware (genie.fsh): 4.9.0a
    DB Flash : 1.11
    DA-Check : 2.32
    S.A.L.S.A Version : 1.40
    shinobi.lib :
    CodeWarrior IDE : 4.0.6 Build 0524
    Codescape : 2.3.0.197

    Katana SDK 1.55J August 3, 1999 for SET 5.2
    Boot Rom (btr*.bin) : 1.011
    GDM Firmware (gm*.fsh) : 2.7.0c
    GD Workshop : 2.7.0D
    DA Firmware (genie.fsh): 4.6.0a
    DB Flash : 1.11
    DA-Check : 2.2
    S.A.L.S.A Version : 1.28
    shinobi.lib :
    CodeWarrior IDE : 3.3.6 Build 0310 Japanese and 3.3.4 Build 0260 US
    Codescape : 2.2.0.137

Since 1.55J is way older, I guess NjViewer could be found in the EUR or US SDK, but I can't confirm that...

As where to buy it... as usual, at an auction or from somebody else...

    Nice!

Why does all the action happen while I'm on vacation?

How much did it go for?

over 60.000 yen with a dev.cas if I remember correctly...

Since I think you can't boot the dev.cas with the SCAT disk, it was over the budget for me...

    I don't think it's a coincidence these 2 items turned up together.

The 9 pin serial looking port on the front of the HKT-11 Dev.Cas should connect to the HKT-07 C1/C2 address checker.

I saw the Mac OS SCAT2 disc, but out of interest, has anyone tried the Dev.Cas with the CodeScape's ASE Mode Trace Profiler feature of R9/R10 Katana SDK? From what I gather it should wor fine if you hook it up to your dev PC via SCSI.

Also does anyone still have more detailed pics under the hood as the links are down?

Oh and FYI - the test points for the C1/C2 addresses to build your own homebrew Dev.Cas are underneath the Dreamcast motherboard. They are arranged to look like a 9 pin serial connector (without actually being serial, but G1 bus address lines) just above IC105. I'm currently mapping every single test point which will take weeks to complete my rough draft but hopefully this will help or encourage someone to dig deeper :)

    Here's all I got:

Most of the board scans are courtesy of Mark300001, which disapeared off the internet some years ago for unknown reason!

Most of those are Set 2.1, Set 5 or GD Writer :p I spotted this from the 5.24 which looks familiar though:

I assume the C1/C2 port for the Dev.cas is pretty similar if not the same.

The pics I was referring to are in Post #14 BTW. No one got these? :(

    Unfortunately, it won't work.

Without the dev.cas boot disc, the dev.cas is not recognized at all.
I suppose the dev.cas boot disc initializes the scsi controller chip on the dev.cas, after which the dev.cas should be recognized.

Note that the SCAT discs are different from the boot discs.
The SCAT discs are cd-roms, not gd-r, and only contain pc-side software.
