Did you go for the regular edition, or did you get a "limited edition" console, such as the Majora's Mask or Monster Hunter bundle? Did you buy it from Nintendo and get extras, such as the Skull Kid statue? Did you get the 3DS or the 3DS XL? Did you already have a 3DS, or was this your first? If you already had one, what attracted you to this one? My Majora's Mask 3DS XL turned up today - two days early! I now have a bit of a dilemma.... Use the card that came with it (4Gb, I think) Buy a 32Gb micro SDHC card (the largest card Nintendo say will work) Buy a larger micro SDXC card, format it as FAT and hope it'll work (as was the case with previous 3DS models and the SD cards) Any opinions?
I'm not really interested. It doesn't come with the faceplates (something I was oddly excited for), the "c-stick" looks atrocious, I'm not interested in the 3D, and Nintendo promised that we'd get an Amiibo adapter for the old 3DS. Maybe once some more exclusives come out I might be inclined, but at the moment I'm happy with my original 3DS.
I would really like to have the Majora's Mask Limited Edition but it sold out quickly in the US and I don't think I will find a unit here in Brazil. One day I will get the New 3DS, maybe in July but for now I will continue with the 3DS's that I own. As for your dilemma, I think you should get the 32GB micro SDHC card. You may never use it's full capacity but it's good to know that you can store a lot of games. If you want to go all digital then the possibility of buying a 32GB micro SDHC card should not be a dilemma.
I pre-ordered the Majora's Mask edition as well. It was shipped out yesterday, it MAYBE will arrive tomorrow.
Yeah I preordered the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate 3DS. It's gonna be awesome!!! If you get a lot of eshop titles I would get a 32gb sd.
I think the 32Gb might be a good move. Thanks, guys! One thing - I actually upgraded my SD card in my 3DS XL from the original 4Gb to a 16Gb, simply by copying the Nintendo 3DS folder to my PC, then copying it to the new card. Worked fine! Nintendo warn that screwing around with the content will break it, though. Will this method still work with the New 3DS.. i.e. use the built-in card, then add a 32Gb later by transferring the folder across?
The SD cards in the 3ds are all standard Fat 32 formatted so any card should work. Did you use the 16 gb on your old 3DS though? I was mostly buying carts so I never used my SD card. Unless your buying a ton of games on the nintendo store I wouldn't bother with such a huge card yet. Plus you want to be buying carts because they go out of print very fast. Alot of the launch 3DS games are out of print now.
I was fortunate enough to get a pre-order for the Majora's Mask LE New 3DS in. Don't think it has shipped yet though. I did get to play with one at Best Buy earlier this week though, it was nice. Anyways, as for the questions: Did you go for the regular edition, or did you get a "limited edition" console, such as the Majora's Mask or Monster Hunter bundle? Did you buy it from Nintendo and get extras, such as the Skull Kid statue? Did you get the 3DS or the 3DS XL? I only bought one because of the Majora's Mask LE. Since Nintendo of America is stupid, I don't get the option of getting the regular New 3DS, which is what I would have preferred. Was going to boycott them, but that Majora's Mask N3DS is so nice... Not getting a Skull Kid statue with mine (was that offered in the US?) Got the Majora's Mask LE coming from Amazon though, so I'm still getting the statue (and a physical copy of the game, which I prefer). Did you already have a 3DS, or was this your first? If you already had one, what attracted you to this one? I bought an aqua 3DS at a midnight launch. I loved that 3DS, I constantly tracked my steps with it and put in as much time with the stats app as the amount of time I was putting into various games. It was incredible to me that it tracked a history of my gaming!! I spent as much time in the stats app as I did in most of my games. I had a pouch that I would keep it in that I would loop around my belt buckle (so to get StreetPasses and steps in). In fact, when I taught Trig as a grad student I used the Mario Clock app to time my students during speed quizzes (where they'd have to quickly be able to evaluate trigonometric functions). Then, the Friday before my wedding, after the rehearsal dinner, my sister, in her fear of traveling down to the street to a Wal-Mart alone, whined about having me accompany her there. I had my 3DS on me that night, but when I got back to my parents' hotel room I noticed it was missing. Despite searching frantically, my 3DS (and the 15+ games in the case) was gone. To this day I wish horrible horrible horrible things on whoever took it, and if I ever found them I would likely inflict those things on them myself. I got another 3DS, a red one (did not want to upgrade to the XL). But I have never opened the stats app on it, and I never will. Nintendo was awesome though, they reimbursed me the amount of all of the games I had purchased on the eShop (which they were able to track since I had a Nintendo account). So I had $350+ to spend on the eShop. It was nice. You have to have a micro SD card for the New 3DS in general. It doesn't support all of the same SD cards as the 3DS. http://www.nintendofuse.com/2015/02/12/heres-a-list-of-microsd-cards-compatible-with-new-3ds-xl/ I have a 32GB microSD in my 3DS now (which I guess will work), but I buy a lot of eShop games (unless a physical copy is available).
A friend of mine pre-ordered a standard red 3DS XL from GameStop. We're going to pick it up in a few hours. He actually traded in an old 3DS and a PS Vita and broke about even. He loves the 3DS, so that was his motivation for upgrading.
I picked up standard unit today with MH4U. I really like how they did the 3d for this system it seems so much better than the 3dsxl. The control nub makes camera adjustments so easy its crazy we haven't seen something similar sooner. Just side note, I missed preorders and so was bummed that I wasn't going to be able to get one but I walked into target and they had 3 systems on shelf with game so I got lucky I guess.
On the card situation, it has to be micro SDHC. AFAIK, micro SDXC (or the 64Gb and 128Gb ones, at least) are formatted in exFAT, not FAT32. The 3DS needs FAT32. Interestingly, Nintendo have tested the following cards: Toshiba PFM008U-1DCK 8Gb - Class 10, UHS-I, 30Mb/s read, 10Mb/s write $7.99 Sandisk - N.B. I've used the latest versions of the specified cards, which are usually better and cheaper on Amazon SDSDQXL-016G/032G 16Gb/32Gb - Class 10, UHS-I Class 3, 60Mb/s read, 40Mb/s write $13.99/$22.99 SDSDQX-016G/032G 16Gb/32Gb - Class 10,UHS-I Class 3, 80Mb/s read, 50Mb/s write $23.98/$34.95 SDSDQXP-016G/032G 16Gb/32Gb - Class 10, UHS-I Class 3, 95Mb/s read, 90Mb/s write $41.85/$39.99 * * yeah, Amazon are out of stock of the 16Gb! This is what they supply with the New 3DS XL (at least, the Majora's Mask bundle in the UK): Toshiba SD-C04GJ 4Gb - Class 4, 15Mb/s read, 5Mb/s write £2.99 (less than $5) As is usually the way with electronics manufacturers, they're being cheapskates and bundling the cheapest, nastiest cards they can to save thousands of dollars on a large batch. So... if the 3DS can read and write quickly and you use your memory card a lot (lots of reading from the built-in game, large downloads etc.), you're probably better off swapping. My backup of the card was 825Mb - that's nearly a quarter of the card used before you switch the machine on for the first time, even! Monster Hunter 4 is apparently 2.6Gb (over half the card). So don't tell me I don't need to bother upgrading my card... I do! My question wasn't about the transfer, Hex - that's easy. It was whether, AFTER the transfer, I can still copy my data to a bigger card (as was the case with the 3DS). It seems it's possible. As for games on card - I prefer that, too... but you can't deny it's more convenient not to have to carry lots of cards around with you when travelling. Plus you can't get Virtual Console games on card. It is strange that some games are hard to find - take Ocarina of Time 3D. Nobody sells it in the UK any more. GAME stopped selling the card, but still had it for download - now they don't do that, even! Amazon had the card in stock until last week at £32.99. They only have "fulfilled by Amazon" copies at stupid prices now. Meanwhile, Nintendo have it for £39.99 for download. Or they have the card in stock for... £39.99! Yup... price fixing much? Oh, but the card comes with a baseball cap that they otherwise sell for £15. Hmm. Incidentally, has anyone noticed lid wobble on their New 3DS XL? I'm not talking about the ever present 'nodding' that's always plagued the 3DS (where the screen waggles a bit on any lock position). No, this is worse - if I play with my fingers aside the screen by the hinges, I can push it left and right! There is a bit of a gap in the hinge, basically. Am I alone in this?
It's Nintendo's way of skirting round not getting an exFAT licence. They just treat you like an idiot and tell you it has to be SDHC. Which is easier than telling kids they have to download a tool that is capable of formatting the stick as FAT32, then they have to make sure their adapter isn't write protected.... etc. Find a couple of nice, easy to get memory cards by a trusted brand, test them, job done. 32Gb is your limit (lol). Of course, a game larger than 4Gb wouldn't work that way... but they seem to assume there won't be one. Other than that, I think reformatting an SDXC should work.
I got 3 of the zelda because the shops mess up my orders and so on  I have paid for all 3 now but kinda wtf when I order one. Edit: But the box is epic Is bad nintendo do not seal it more
I was a dunce and ***ked up by only ordering the MH4 unit thinking the MM unit would be easy to find since it wasn't exclusive. Yet now it's pretty much impossible with out a massive markup. On the flip side I got my MH4 unit in yesterday. On a side note, **** NOA for not releasing the normal new 3ds units. My JPN unit is the white model and I love the size (I had and sold a new XL but still found it too bulky), I really wanted to get a black new 3DS to replace my old OG 3DS unit for USA games. =| -edit- Also JPN/Euro Boxes > USA boxes. I like the vertical design they went with.
Odd since 3DS game cards can be up to 8GB, and they seem to be releasing every game on the eShop now.
I went for the Majora's Mask edition. The only bonuses that I'm aware of in Japan was a set of postcards when you buy from Amazon. I would have loved to have gotten a skullkid statue! XL (or LL as it's known here) if course! The bigger screen makes a bit if a difference. This was my third 3DS. I got it because of the new features and the fact it was a limited edition Zelda themed one.
