My very first app got released today, it's just a stupid soundboard for the british TV character Alan Partridge and will no doubt annoy many app store users who are already flooded with soundboards. I made it is as a break from my other video game app which is suffering heavy delays due to the 3.0 firmware update coming out soon. It also gave me a chance to scope out the App submission service which is an absolute nightmare. It was also something a friend of mine said he would happily pay for if it was out there so I rose to his challenge. He wanted the 'Dan' sound effect so he could mimic this part of the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2D3-FkoXNU I have 15 promo codes for the app but for some reason they can only be used in the US which is pointless seeing as Alan Partridge is little known stateside. Anyway here they are: 11 left. Also if and when the app makes £60 I will make it free as I believe an app like this shouldn't require payment but I feel I need to make my developer fees back after months of unpaid work. Amazingly it's not in breach of contract as long as I don't use the words 'Alan' and 'Partridge' together. Enjoy.
Funny thing happened on my way to use a promo code... I accidentally just bought it outright. No complaints though. it's a fun little app and 99cents won't kill me.
I applaud anyone that can tolerate Objective C enough to actually get a product out of the door, I hate Objective C...
I've never been so comfortable with a language before. Coding for iPhone is very very weird but a lot of fun once you start seeing results. My app is now no. 72 in the top 100 and no. 12 in the top 100 entertainment apps. Sold 160 copies in two days
Congrats bro! Unfortunately, i dont have an iPhone, or i would try it out as well. Hell, i would even pay the 99 cents for it:icon_bigg
Great work Twimfy! 5 Stars! Hopefully I can get my own game/app on the iphone. If only I had a mac... Oh wait I do, but its been stolen by my sister who can't stop messing around on facebook/gaia... Stole the code HPXNMK4XJL3E BTW. I'm a sucker for free :110:
Thanks. Sold 254 copies yesterday and now in the Top 50 paid apps and top 10 entertainment apps. Can imagine it will probably start to go down the charts now. Can't be that many Alan Partridge fans in the UK with iPhones. Still my mum of all people gave me a great idea for another sound board app which I'm working on today which is more likely to break the US market.
For those who are interested, the app is now #5 in the top entertainment apps and #23 in the top 100 UK apps. This is going a million times better than I expected. I feel bad for the developers out there who spend quite a bit of money on assembling a team and a company to produce a AAA title and see less success only to see their title trumped by a sound board with IP which clearly doesn't belong to me. On the other hand I have been out of work for 7 months (only 3 of which were through choice) and this has come as a nice little boost. In January I didn't even know how to code, now a few hundred thousand people can see the efforts of me sitting following what must have been 50+ tutorials and 3 hard core programming books. Yes I'm blowing my own horn but I'm ecstatic with excitement and need to tell people.
That's awesome dude, what language did you start with -- C++? I did see the AP Soundboard in the App Store and remembered this thread, glad to see it's working out for you. I look forward to seeing what else you conjure up.
