Have you beat Zelda for Cd-i and lived to tell about it?

I seriously think I will begin my quest into what surely will be a long and strange journey. Having picked the game up off ebay (Wand of Gamelon) awhile back I figured it was time to take the plunge.

I guess its fan boyish but, I want to beat every Zelda full-length game (not including short games like Zelda Game & Watch)

I've beat most of them so-far... (except four swords adventures, which I currently own, but would rather wait for a friend to play it through with.)

Let me just say this, the game controls pretty decent with my wireless xbox 360 controller for PC, and believe it or not, the Cd-i Emulator, works pretty darn well with the thing.Indeed I'm suprised at the quality of joystick support on the emulator at this stage.

Anyone else ever taken this journey? OR even thought about it?

PS: I encourage you all to purchase the emulator and support cdifan with his efforts on this emulator, as from what I understand what he has done is one hell of an accomplishment. Plus, there are some definite reasons to check out this emulator. There are indeed a couple gems for the system, the apprentice is a great little platformer and it runs great on the thing.

How about some serious review of the game once you have it done?

Yeah the games arent nearly as bad as people said, the problem is people hear others say they are bad and assume they are bad without even playing them.

I think its the bad animation and god-awful voice acting that makes people assume it is bad.

Beleive me, the game is really, really hard. I did use one of those standard remotes that some with every CD-i player and they seem not to respond every 3 times I hit a button on it. I stopped playing it after half an hour. Maybe I'd try it again if I can get a better controller for it (like a 360) and hope it is easier.

This reminds me of something else. A couple of months ago I wrote some review-ish thing for a dutch forum and I said the CDi games where only good for collecting. Then some stupid fanboys began flamin me with:"Zelda CDi games aren't Zelda games, you stupid moron, so why would collectors want them.If you are a REAL collector you don't want those crap games, they've got nothing to do with nintendo" and more of that. Obviously he just hadnn't got enough money to get them himself. :p

What about the other two CD-i Zelda games, Link: Faces of Evil, and Zelda's Adventure? Zelda's Adventure is supposedly the better of the three, but it's super expensive on eBay, so I haven't gotten around to buying it.

Oh, you're playing it on an emulator rather than an actual CD-i? I was going to recommend getting one of the more traditional gamepads for the CD-i, but it looks like you're already in good hands. I didn't even realize there were CD-i emulators out there with enough compatibility to run many games.

By the way, here's an interview with Dale DeSharone, apparently the main guy resposible for the two platform-style Zelda games. It has some interesting information about the game's development.

Lol, never appealed to me, too slow, too boring.

...Whilst friends were playing Zelda, I was in DOOM, Wolfenstein and Quake, when I got bored I made new maps and devices of my own...If god were a video game he would be a Chain Gun

the zelda games on cdi are disgusting in every way imagineable.
bad controls, bad leveldesign, bad graphics, bad sound, really bad videos.
i've played them on original hardware.
couldn't bear playing any of them for more than half an hour, despite trying really hard.

    good luck beating them!

:eek:h: Really? shoot that scares me... I mean if the guy with the huge Cd-i collection can't do it... then what chance do I have  seriously...

Maybe the fact that it'd be with a 360 controller would help the smoothness.

I got Wand of Gamalon and Faces of Evil when they were released and actually really enjoyed them at the time. But I have never played and have no desire to play the Nintendo released Zelda games, I just got them because i had a CD-I and thought they looked like fun.

I have the Mega Drive style pad that plugged into the CD-I, I don't recall any controle issues using this.

For what it matters i heard that Zelda's Adventure (the now exspensive one) was the worst of the 3 but appealed to fans of the original because of the top down aspect.

Borman - Ive only actually completed Burn:Cycle and Mad Dog Mcree. I think i came close to completing Chaos Controle but its hard to tell.

I picked up a CD-i a couple of years ago to play Mario's Wacky Worlds.

I believe I got to about the fourth stage in Wand of Gamelon. I remember thinking that if the game didn't have the Zelda rep to live up to, it would have made a half way mediocre Genesis or Sega CD title. I also thought that the people who were comparing the game to bowel surgery without anesthesia were exaggerating quite a bit. Zelda's Adventure, however, was absolutely awful.

But yeah, WoG was really hard. I gave up after trying to beat the fourth level for about 70 minutes.

Dude...seriously...no more bashing Cd-i fan. The guy has been nothing but a godsend to the cd-i community and he has never shown anything but enthusiam for the project. So, i don't know why you'd say that.

Anyways I'm getting off topic...I'll continue the rant over at the cd-i fourms.

I'd recommend getting a joypad then as its really the best way to play these games in my opinion, and it it fairly flawless. But, you could always use a keyboard to mouse program. Indeed the one linked kind of sucks. But, I'm sure there's good ones out there.

But, honestly just be glad he's still around and working on the thing.

Too many good projects have just been abandoned by their creators.
Yes he does charge for the emulator, but Bleem! was around the same cost ($29.95)
