I have some Amazon vouchers to use and have been looking at these two little beauties

I have had my last two BIG living room TV`s with Phillips

    36PW9607
    [IMG]
is the present living room one, I have had this for about 3 years now and am more than happy with it

I also have in my home office a Samsung LCD TV

    LW15E23CX
    [IMG]

Again more than happy, had it for about 2 years, used for my PC primarily but 360 gaming as well

I want to get one of the top two but am not sure.

The Philips one is £50 cheaper and has got great reviews, but the Samsung one the picture appears to be a tad better, but it is difficult to get anywhere to see them side by side and running the same thing.
Will be using for PC & 360 gaming mainly.

Does the fact the Samsung one has a higher

    Samsung
    Contrast Ratio (X:1): 2000

    Philips
    Contrast ratio (typical) : 450:1

    Give the better picture??????

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

    Vote Philips or Samsung ;-)

I'd go for the Samsung. I've got a Samsung monitor for my PC thats been wonderful, and I believe the LCD panel on my TV was made by Samsung too. And yes you want a higher contrast ratio, supposed to offer a more detailed picture or something. But that's not to say you wouldn't be alright with the Philips.

I'd go for the samsung, i have it's older brother and it's very good in games. In fact this newer model has a built in game mode which cranks up the contrast/brightness etc, it's a good looking and performing screen for a good price.

I have some bad experience with Samsung displays. For me it goes like this:
Sony > Sharp > Philips > anything else.
(Always talking about 20"+ LCD TVs, not computer, plasma or CRT displays)

Well finally pulled my finger out!!!!

I was waiting for one more £30 amazon voucher to come through the post and they reduced the 26in model with freeview to £399, which was only £10 more than the 23in without freeview £389

So this will be delivered at the weekend.

At that price, just buy a Dell PC monitor. Its 1080P at least, at has DVI (with HDCP), and a simply cable makes that HDMI, with Component, composite, svideo, and VGA. Only downside is a lack of speakers, which are crap on most TVs, and no TV tuner, but in the US at least, most people have boxes with one of those outputs. Granted, you already ordered, but its something to keep in mind for other people.

Philips have got worse and worse in build quality and reliability over the years, unfortunately.

That is a generalised observation from the failings of several of their products. ESPECIALLY DVD-BASED SYSTEMS! :(

I have only ever really had TV`s from them and CRT`s rather than LCD/Plasma

I think at the moment IMHO Samsung probably produce about the best units....apart from the sound....but an ever increasing number of people have surround sound systems anyway

Getting all excited, it has been despatched as well
