Well, I went ahead and got the Aquos today. Sears had a sale. After tax and shit it came out to about $120 more than if I bought it online and had my mother ship it from the mainland. For $120, I got it today (not 2 weeks) and in one piece, in my hands -- not a bad deal. A couple of comments though.

1: WTF happened w/ store warranties? I was going to pick one up, but they wanted $359.99 for a 3 year store warranty. If it was $150, I'd do it, but $360 is like 20% of the TV. Not worth it IMHO.

2: As the guy put it in my ride, he said, "don't lay it back or put it on it's side, as you might damage it. It's like that w/ Plasma and LCD". I knew (or heard anyway) that Plasma can't be put on their their sides less they be screwed up, but LCD is fully rotatable, no? I plan on putting this sucker on it's side for a fair bit of the time. I had an LCD monitor I left on it's side (at work, for an internal application) for about 8 months, and had absolutely no problem whatsoever. Someone at Shmups told me LCD is fine like that, but Plasma will eventually get all effed up. Anyone w/ some experience, expertise on the subject care to comment?

in their news room I see number of panel hanging on their side. Seen them like that for at least two years or more... don't think they changed the panel as they are the same brand - yes with 1080i HDTV you can actually see the brand at the corner of panel occasionally... :D

still it amazes me when I see 1080i HDTV demo reel on Channel NINE after three years...

    cheers

The above 3 posts don't make any sense at all to me...

dj98 says on the news, he can see flat panel LCDs hanging on their side, and has seen them for years. In other words -- it's okay to hang it on their side. He was making a joke that, "maybe they'll put them upright after 2 years, since some wareshouse worker at Sears said you can damage them that way) :)
