Hi all, i have a tsop 1.4 xbox and are looking to get some component/ toslink cables, i noticed that I can enable hd video modes. Does this change game resolution? Is there any down fall to this, ie lag?
480P is the most common option which greatly enhances the picture. Some games support higher resolutions, with some occasionally lowering the framerate (True Crime comes to mind).
Luke Boardman says, most games will run at 480p even if you enable 720p and/or 1080i. Some select games do run at 720p (Soul Calibur II but not widescreen I think). However, lots of emulators and homebrews run well at 720p/1080i. You can even plan some N64 games at 720p. XBMC4Xbox will also run the UI at higher resolutions but you should stick to SD video files for smooth playback. Still, they'll be upscaled to the HD res of your choice which is not that bad!
Cool thanks guys now where can I get one with toslink also, found some on eBay for $20 is that good price? Hex, do you have any spare?
I got my official HD cable from the US for around $20 if I remember correctly. Don't get any 3rd party HD cables, they are completely shit.
Actually back in the day lot's of scene groups released hr.avi's which were 720p HDTV rips which played perfectly on the OG XBOX, unfortunately once .MKV's took over the XBOX was out of the game for playing nice HD video content.
Not sure if this will answer your question or not. This is a HDAV Pack V2 which is a cable instead of a box, they both have the same port though.
Learning something new everyday, didn't know there was a HD AV-pack version 2 out there! For the record, the HD AV-pack (version 1) also has a toslink port on there.
You could also do a hardware mod on the mainboard http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1383
hi, i just started to play again with my old xbox (softmoded, pal but enigma etc. installed) playing emulators in 1080i just looks great! I found this informative site here (http://ps2wide.net/xbox.html#top) were you could find hex codes to change the actual 4:3 picture to 16:9 without stretching (you know, like in the screenshots) I tried it with my castlevania game (its the us version!), so i changed the given hex codes in the default.xbe to the hex codes given on that site. At the original xbox dashboard, i changed all videomodes (480p, 720p,1080p) to ON, and activated "widescren" ... as i said, xbmc, emulators and stuff just run fine in 1080i widescreen, but i tried several original xbox game with edited xbe´s, but i never got real widescreen (16:9) just 4:3 :/ Isnt this possible (like shown in the screenshots of that site (http://ps2wide.net/xbox.html#top) or what could be the problem? :/ Any help appreciated happy new year
You will need to stretch the video mode. 480p "wide" is still basically 4:3 (640x480) 480p video that must be stretched out to the "proper" aspect ratio.
