This is funny. Apparently, the $600 model of the PS3 which boasts a bigger 60gig HDD and HDMI output which is the selling point for this model, will not actually include an HDMI cable. It will instead come with a composite output cable. HEre's the news article: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=67315 Heres the actual proof: http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/about.html (click on question number 6) Wouldn't you expect it to include the hardware needed to take full advantage of the extra features?
I'd hope for a minimum of component, since I'd hope they still support some HD resolutions...not that it would surprise me if sony only included composite...or RF for that matter, anything to save a few pennies
Well then they might as well take out the blu ray laser unit to save more pennies. It costs pennies to make the cable, why not just include it in the original packaging?
RF won't be in there I don't think, it wasn't with the PS2. How many people actually have a HDMI input on their TV? It is stupid not to include one on the pimped version, but as an extra. How much do those cables cost, anyway?
I don't have an HDMI input, but I have a DVI input so I simply need a cable with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other. The real pain in the ass is that I have only one DVI input that's already being used, so I'll have to get a switch. HDMI to DVI cables aren't exactly cheap, either.
err all you need is one cheap dvi to hdmi about £8. Then just use all HDMI cables. Yes i do have a HDMI input on my tv and no it wont be used by the ps3
HDMi is to much of a living-room connector standard for my taste. I ll stick to DVi-D and other PC related native connections for the time being, Ps3 or not
Assinine. I could almost understand not including the HDMI cable if they would provide at least component, but composite?? WTF! At least the premium 360 has component cables. Does anyone else feel like Sony is *trying* to mess up here for some reason? Maybe they use the George Bush method "Stay the course! We're right despite all evidence!"
I think there are some codification differences and overheads etc that differ. Besides, keeping audio and video seperate is a good thing, for me at least, even if it is digital and "lossless"
I somehow missed that. HDMI is understandable, but no component? Even after they continually hype how they have "true HighDef" and MS premium is a ripoff. The $600 is looking more like rape every day
Does the PS3 come with a power pack or do you have to buy that as well  Bloody stupid giving a console like that with such a hi-def' output a set of composite cables. They are the worst of the worst ! At least in Europe they could have gave you bloody RGB at least! Yakumo
Thanks for clearing the DVI/HDMI thing Didn't know they were identical when it came to video It's not surprising that many professionals use firewire though
