that all depends upon the image file. If the format is ISO then many programs will burn it. I always use Nero but pretty much anything can burn ISO files. Most Dreamcast games are in Disc Juggler format though. I'm sure my copy of Hellgamte was. Disc Juggler is soooooooo easy to use. Just load up the image file and press burn. Simple as that. From memory the disc juggler file extention is .cdi (nothing to do with the philips machine) Yakumo
Sorry to bump an old thread. Another dev box dump of Hellgate. No idea if the version is different or not. Looks like it includes the source code as well. Haven t been able to get it to work on my box, but I haven't really tried much. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=81VXGBKT
Thank you, NTM! The full source is included (check the root "HELLGATE" folder)! Edit: I got it to run on a Katana. Remember, all of the game assets have to be in /hellgate/ and the 1st_read.bin has to be in the root directory along with that folder. This version is much more complete / polished that the first. Plus, there seems like a significant performance increase over the first in load times (but the real test is when it's on a CD-R).
I wouldn't worry about them. I checked the 20MB one in an editor and it's just null data, so most likely padding. A program the developers were using to compile or modify the code could have put it there and it really is a swap file, but in either case, it isn't needed for running on the Katana. If you're writing to a CD, padding the CD is advised for faster loading, but it would have to be named something like 0DUMMY or a name that puts it ahead of the other files.
That sound awesome, going to try that very soon. Thanks for sharing!! That artwork http://www.flickr.com/photos/dreamcast/3388604964/in/set-72157604040432513/ is available somewhere ?
Very awesome. Thanks for sharing I'm having fun looking through the source. Some of this code is... interesting. XD
Well, that sucks. I have some photoshop knowledge if somebody give me some images from the game I can create one. That background in the cover is not from the game, right ?
Well its pretty much like dreamcast said create a hellgate folder and put all assets there, then at the root put the 1st read.bin and use you favorite selfboot making application and thats it.Thats all I did anyway. EDIT:Should I upload the sb image?
Only tested on nulldc and it works.Since I dont have any cd-rs to spare I havent tested on real hardware.Framerate on nulldc is pretty bad, cant imagine how it will run on the dc.Only tested the 1st stage of story mode. Selfboot Hellgate latest build: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F2FDUHQT
I used Fastboot.Hopefully it works on an actual dreamcast, and by the looks of it the load times are going to be somewhat long.
I should have mentioned that some files are missing from this one that are in the one Raylyd released. The game will freeze when loading a time trial because the levels/timetrial folder is missing (you can find it in Raylyd's release). There are some other ones as well. Both releases will have to be combined to make a full version.
I noticed once the emulator flipped out(figured something was missing but wasnt sure).I would do it but I already deleted the orginal release(this game makes dizzy) and dont plan to redownload it.Maybe someone else would want to do it?
