I am assuming that is the board without the Infra red for the remote

I think the messiah chip is the best one

that was designed for the 3xxxx and the 5xxxx

shame its a 3xxxx as I had a chip made only for 5xxxx consoles that I didn't want and would have let you have it

(personally I think you payed too much, here in uk a 39xxx I can pick up for £35 that's about $50)

Most of the matrix infinity clone chips that are out nowadays work great with v5 to Final Version (SCPH-90001) PS2's. Yours is a v7 (SCPH-39001 = V7) so I would pick up a modbo 4.0.

I see your from canada, have you tried kijiji?. Usually they sell from anywhere from 30$ to 60$ back with at least the ac/av cables and a controller. Though i notice the slims go from anywhere from 40$ to 70$ though. And sometimes you can get 5-10 games with it. I think you paid a little too much for what you got unless you live out in the boonies.

Or Craigslist. In my area Kijiji is unheard of and everyone uses Craigslist- but it differs from city to city, really.

Chances of finding a modchip alone are pretty slim. You're better off checking about for a pre-chipped PS2. Sometimes they go for really cheap because it's some parents tossing their kid's stuff after they move out.

I installed a modchip in a SCPH-39003 the other day. V7, just like you have purchased. I used a DMS3 Plus though which was kindly donated to me by the member of another forum.

My first successful modchip install which I put down to using fine 60/40 solder instead of not fine lead free solder.

It is kinda messy but every function of the modchip is fine and I tested all points with a continuity test so I don't think there's any issues with it.

Can having a messy install make the boot process take longer or anything like that? Was wondering why people get so anal with installs - or is it just to keep stuff tidy if something does go wrong?

Either way, I also found a site that apparently sells DMS4 chips still, as well as legit Matrix Infinity that might be worth checking out.

    http://shop.01media.com/info.asp?ProductID=38253

Modchip stuff on this page: http://shop.01media.com/categoryb.asp?ID=1444&ID2=3379

Either way, good luck in your search.

Personally I would prefer a slightly better chip in my machine than a modbo just for piece of mind although they do a sufficient job as is.

i might pick one up from you [Bad_Ad84], have to get through Christmas first. and i live in a town called Beaumont, its 20 mins away from Edmonton and i could have gotten one off kijiji but i would much rather not have to get my fiancee to drive me lol.

i might put in the modbo 4.0 chip, but i want the best chip out there, particularly one that will run dvd9 games.

I Love My V9 Hardware chipped with a DMS4 SE Pro chip with toxic OS the built in cheat engine works great and load and run from hdd works as advertised tho you need to install it with th ground edge of the motherboard to avoid ground bounce an on the v9 hardware I recomend doing the vanguard mod on v9 hardware if you dont want your mechacon ic to burn out on you aka your cd/dvd drive controller

So can having a messy install have detrimental effects to your chips operation at all?

I think you mean the romeo mod. V9 isnt the only revision you need to the romeo mod on, you also need to do it on a v10. V12 definitely needs a fix too (Worst version for mechacon crashes/laser burn outs) but you need a PIC fix (Matrix Pic Fix V2 works great) and at least the summ0ne fix combined. I would avoid the V12 (SCPH-70012) at all costs unless you get one for free/cheap and are willing to do these mods.

Legit matrix chips are the best and i would pick one up too if you got an extra 5-10$ to spare. Though Modbo 4.0, Modbo 750's and Matrix Infinity v1.93's works almost as good too.

The only thing i notice though between the legit one and the clones (Modbo 4.0, etc) is when your booting up a PS1 game with a clone, it will not show the classic ps1 boot up sequence that the ps2 usually does. It would be booting the PS1 game on a black screen for about 30 seconds instead on the clone chips.

Most of the time, its still works if your wires are a bit long, but its good to try to keep your wires short as much as possible for the best results.

Well my install is above. The wires aren't massively long and it seems to function okay so I guess it'll do.

You should be fine, but if you notice your games arent booting up all the time or if the chip is not kicking in (Matrix logo at bootup), i would try to make to make the wires shorter.
