HELP IN GIMP

  1. I doubt you intended to do this, but you pretty much negated your argument while simultaneously making an excellent point. Quod erat demonstratum, indeed.

And while nobody here can say they have not dabbled in some sort of illicitly obtained software, when one's off-the-cuff answers to questions about obtaining software are just exhortations to download it with the latest P2P of choice, it just makes the thread FEEL like a dumber place, aside from showing a complete and total lack of respect for the time and money put into the software by the programmers and designers.

There are websites for warez kiddies; ASSEMbler isn't one of them.

I bet if people like Adobe, Macromedia and Microsoft sold their products for SANE prices (i.e. around like $50 - something similar to game prices) their sales would increase significantly. I can usually afford to buy games, so I do buy them. But for the price of Windows XP and the student edition of the latest Office, I could buy myself a half-decent bike - something I think is actually worth that kind of money, especially taking into account it involves raw materials that aren't just cardboard and a bit of plastic, and bike manufacturers like Raleigh or whatever aren't making the same kind of criminially high profits M$ are.

And this is why the only legitimate Microsoft products I own are a keyboard, a mouse that came with my Pentium 75, a manual for Windows for Workgroups 3.11/DOS 6.22, and Flight Simulator 98.

There are many legal ways to get Windows licenses for free, or little money. There was a thread about it here not long ago, noless.

The thing is, Adobe is professional level software. It is the standard... hence the professional price tag.

I get for free from my university. Some agreeement with MS they have.

Also Adobe is as you say the standard but you cant expect students and home users to pay
the prices companies pay for the stuff! Specialy when they are used for non comercial uses.

You can if they need professional level software. If not, buy one of the many other $50 to $100 solutions, no?

no because half the time students are needed to learn how to use the industry standard. How do they expect to sell their products if no one knows how to use them because they had to do with some shitty other one at univerisity...

I'm sure anyone in a graphics design college will have access to a licensed copy of Photoshop in their computer lab. I think I did and I was in the college of liberal arts... albeit, at a huge school.

lol...my highschool still has photoshop 6.....and the teacher doesnt have good answers for my questions......and not one comp in the entire place is running anything higher than win98....

  13. I was going to say, my school has a copy of Photoshop CS on every computer on campus, regardless of the department. This is one of the smaller public schools in a state known for its lack of school funding, so it's a good guess that one should be able to find the software in just about any university or college worth its salt.

But really, the attitude that you deserve to have a certain piece of software even though you're not willing to pay the set price for it is pretty ridiculous, no matter how good your reasons are for WHY you should get it for no less than $50. And invariably, the reasons you may come up with would just reflect a poor knowledge of the market the software caters to, anyways.

So to reiterate GP's comment: If you need Photoshop that badly, use a school lab. There's no modern university that won't have a current version.

Oh i dont care for photoshop i dont use it but as i said MS is giving me every single os for free along with quiet a few other programs. They also seem to have a reasonable prices for students on their os and office xp. I just think that if they offered more student versions and home user versions of software then maybe there wouldnt be so many pirated versions.
