I think my FTP is not able to accept accounts thanks to the bloody service pack 2 for XP. Everything was working fine until I installed that. Now my connection wont connect unless it's going through a LAN program that has an icon that looks like the top one in the below picture. This never used to be there ! My internet won't connect at all unless I start this up first. Anyway, because of this (I think) I've had no visitors to the FTP for a full week now which is very odd. Can you help sort out this mess and maybe see if you can connect to the FTP? IP - segagagadomain.serveftp.com LOGIN - assembler PASSWORD - games PORT - 21 Yakumo
I am just getting timeouts trying to connect. I am thinking that installing SP2 might have set/reset your Windows Firewall settings and is probably preventing all FTP traffic. Another thing that you might want to check is your IP address and DNS settings for the LAN connection that has the error/exclamation mark.
THere is no fire wall set up on my PC. All the DNS setting are ok, as for the IP it's set to automatic. It's always been like this without any problems until SP2 as installed. Yakumo
Windows XP comes with the Windows Firewall. One of the "security enhancements" the Microsoft forces on everyone when they install SP2 is to automatically turn on the Windows Firewall without permission or notification. Unfortunately, this watered down firewall only serves to screw up networking connections. It can be turned off through the control panel. Of course, if your comment meant that you had already done this, ignore what I just said. :icon_bigg
just not there. There is an option for it but when you click it, it tells me that the fire wall is not present plus there are no options to switch it on or off. Anyway, it was really annoying me so I've deleted SP2. The FTP should now be running. Can someone give it a try? I can access myself from this PC but I'm not sure about others. Yakumo
Yakumo, sorry for asking, but how many years is it that you ve learned Japanese? Is it hard for a gaijin to learn?
Thanks for the confirmation. This happened the last time I installed SP2. The only reason I reinstalled it was because the new 250gig hard drive I bought said that you needed SP1 and up for the HD to function. That turned out to be untrue. It's still working fine now even after I deleted SP2. Oh well.. I've been here for 9 years yet I'm still learning. The thing with Japanese is that you can be studying it for 20 years and still not be fully bilingual (Including reading) I'd say it took me 5 years before I became conversational at a decent level. I've heard of people only taking 2 years though. I must admit that I was lazy at studying it. I mostly learned from my daily experiences. Yakumo
Thanks. I deleted the service pack 2. Seems to cause more trouble than anything else. Bloody fire walls with no options, changing my PC to some crazy LAN config', Annoying bars popping up on web pages asking to allow stuff and so on. Yakumo
