before 'you' start bashing me about piracy etc.... I'm not going to use this knowlege for ripping commercial retail games!. I'd like it to rip GDR's, strange pressdiscs etc. I'm not saying that everything I rip is going to be distributed on the web. Its for mainly myself and some things I would share with others. So now I got this streighten out.....

So here we go I've got:
    Windows XP Prof
    Dreamcast BBA

I have the tools on the pc however I'm unable to connect to my dc. (but I am able to connect to the internet with my pc). Can someone help me with this whole connection thing?

Got a crossover cable and a suitable ethernet on your PC? Lots of times people don't use crossovers/or have routers to cross for them. I'm not sure how to rip GD-R but for GD-ROMs, all you need on the DC end is DCLoad IP and a client for the PC.

I use an crossover cable (otherwise I would have had an internet connection on the dc, browsing works... but connecting with the programs fails)

I think the program doesn't work with some DCs. I was able to connect, but never able to rip the GD, so just gave up and captured what I wanted via capture card. :)

You're using a standard Dreamcast? Do you have the System Disc 2 thingumy then? Otherwise how are you gonna read the GD-R?

It is still copyrighted material btw, hence still piracy ;-)

as long as I keep the rip in house it wont be seen as piracy, well at least not here in the Netherlands were you are allowed to make 1 backup of your original medium.

and I don't have an systemdisc 2, but when using dcload it doenst matter what kind of disc you pop in. (at least that is what I know)

that's a problem I had. Wombat, you should ask SGMX or what ever his name is :-D over at Dreamcast History. He will be able to help you for sure.

When trying to connect to the Dreamcast did you set your MAC address?

Well I'm not sure if I set the correct one, when booting up the dcload on the dc you'll see some long code like this (for example) The 00-f0-b0-09-23-b8. But still I can't connect :smt022

I don;t have an devbox, so can't really use it :smt043

Wombat try to rip it using a normal cd drive and the tools that i gave you, all gds begin in 45000 lba;i rip all my gds using a normal cd drive and it's very faster, i transfer a gd (complet 45000 to 549140) in 20 minutes aprox. I use a dvd drive lg (a cheap model) and read very well (i rip sometimes 4x), you must try to rip with old model of cd drives how arctec 50x, lg 52x (you must modify the potenciometer for give more power to the lens), acer 50x... (all these model i used in other moments).
    Cheers

This number you are seeing is the BBA MAC address. So, you need to setup a arp entry on your PC, so you can reach it.

Choose a IP number on the same network your lan card is, I'll use 192.168.0.100 in this example, and then type this on the command prompt:

    arp -s 192.168.0.100 00-f0-b0-09-23-b8

Now you can try pinging it:

    ping 192.168.0.100

if everything is right, you'll get something like this:

    Reply from 192.168.0.100: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192.168.0.100: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192.168.0.100: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128

    Now everything is setup :)

    PrOfUnD Darkness,
thanks I'm going to try that out

Me too! What the hell, why hasn't this been publicly talked about. Last time I heard about ripping games through a drive was in 2001 with some modified Yamaha drive & firmware.

  18. Yeah, I always thought you need to rip the games through the DC, using a Coder's Cable or the BBA. So, is it faster using a modded CD drive then?

Using a broadband adapter I imagine is fastest no matter what. 4x CDROM speed is 600KiB/s vs. 10Mbit (?)
