I am looking to buy a crystal clear DEV kit and I know that I do not want a DVT-3 since the hardware will not run the most current version of the XDK. So that leaves the DVT-4 and DVT-6. What is the difference? I know that is is a hardware change but to what? Is it the move to the focus chip or a move to the 1.6 style motherboard? I really do not want to buy a DVT-6 and then find out it is based on the 1.6 motherboard and does not have the 128 RAM. I have heard all sorts of answer to this already and they are all not constant in anyway. I hope someone can share the truth about this! I know a few people that would like to know the answer to this question.
No one is really quite sure what a DVT-6 actually is. The naming conventions of the Xbox don't really make sense, since no one actually has all of the data. Just buy a DVT-4 with prototype stickers, that will ensure that it is an older model that will be compatible with everything. The prototype stickers on DVT-4s has more to do with not being cleared by the FCC than anything else.
Have you seen DVT-4's with the metal jewel also? I know that the JVS hole can be uncovered also on the DVT-4. But I was not sure about the jewel. I also was told that the JVS port was not connected to the motherboard on the DVT-4 and the DVT-3 was. Does this port have a use then on the DVT-3?
Supposedly the port is for arcade stuff on the DVT3, but Ive never seen the documentation to back it up, only what somewhat reliable sources have said. I dont think Ive seen a metal jewel on the DVT4, but it's pretty much a given that strange combinations exist
I dont know about the DVT3, but the dvt-4 indeed has nothing connected to the "usb" connector (You could, if there is in others.) Im very intrested into what and where. I cant find detailed teardowns of chihiro xboxes, maybe there are diferences aswell. Also I like to say I just refound some old images on the internet leading to another board with a "connector" (source: http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=399) (nvidea chipset: MCP XMODE2) I think these are NOT Chihiro. and has proberbly nothing to do with your JVS connector. Another source tells me abother special board is doing the JVS, would it be a special extra board? the fpga of the Dvd emulation or was it just a connector used for the chihiro boards (I mean, DVT3 board and DVT4 boards used with Sega boards to dev a chihiro game? Images of a DVT3 inside would help. but big change its almost the same as a DVT4. http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/JVS#Arcade_Hardware_Using_JVS "Controls are handled via an I/O PCB within the cabinet which connects to the game hardware by an USB cable - it's only the physical cable that's USB, and the signals have nothing in common with USB at all."
I Forget where I see what, but I m sure DVt 6 have not 128 ram. I trie to connect my DVT 4 with my chihiro one time with ide connector or USB, but not run, black screen. I trie to load chihiro bios with a custom phoenix bios loader, but black screen due I think missing arcade card. Some of picture inside my DVT 4 when I install a bigger HDD. http://ti1ca.com/hdg2bkro-IMGP0085-IMGP0085.JPG.html http://ti1ca.com/uqe7kgkv-IMGP0086-IMGP0086.JPG.html http://ti1ca.com/i9cvm4vt-20140527-024629-20140527_024629.jpg.html
Why did you use such a big hard drive? The DVT-4 can only read the 137 gigs right? I know that is what my debug reads. Also if the DVT-6 does not have the extra RAM then I will stay away from it. I know that I saw a DVT-6 none DEV kit and it had the 1.6 motherboard installed and I kinda thought that would be the same for the DVT-6 DEV kit.
With the right phoenix bios loader you could use bigger: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...rring-question-about-137-GB-Cap-HDD-Debug-Kit
