I have these two PS3 discs the Resistance 2 Pre-Production disc I can play in my ps3 the data side looks like a regular PS3 disc and has the Playstation logo's near the hole.

I just bought the Little Big Planet Karting Review/Review disc and my PS3 picks it up as a data disc and can't play it the surface feels different and the data side looks like it's been burned with a regular retail Blu-Ray burner.

Im thinking the seller has used a lightscribe blu-ray burner to make this himself, if I had one I could print these all day long.

Is this how review discs should be or is it a fake?

You need one of the following to use them. A CFW Playstation 3 or Playstation 3 Dev Kit, These are the only two things that can use those discs. If you are using a CFW PS3 multiman will boot Bluray back ups using a direct boot method. I have never used that since I find burning PS3 games pointless. If you need more info about a CFW PS3, Your system must have had firmware 3.55 from the factory, And if can only be downgraded with a hardware flasher if you have a firmware higher then 3.55 installed. See this post for more info and help. http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=39766

Don't worry about it, many preview discs are burned, they're not required to run on retail consoles so they don't need to be pressed and checked like a retail disc. Perhaps the developers burned multiple copies for an event where dev systems would be stationed for public to sample the game, they would absolutely have reasons to burn and print them on to a disc like that.

It's just a sticker on the disk by the looks of things. The one disk is pressed, which was used on some promo copies and thus works on retail consoles. I had a Killzone 2 prototype that was pressed.

Indeed. I've seen discs of all different shapes and sizes, some pressed, some burned, some with stickers, some that have been laser printed, some have even been scribbled on with pen, so definitely nothing to be worried about. Get a system and enjoy the beta!
