My boy is 6 and he quite likes playing games, my 4 year old daughter has a quick go but she'd rather be playing with her Tinkerbell dolls. I got the kids a Wii for Xmas to have at their Mum's house and gave him my Mario Kart (good riddance). He gets on quite well with it on 50cc, but he gets just as stressed with it as I do (except without the absolutely filthy language). He's quite into Sonic at the moment so he got Sonic Mega Collection for his birthday and a Sonic stuffed toy; he's loving Sonic 2 & 3/Knuckles. :cur_sonic:We're both looking forward to Sonic 4. At my house he likes Turtles in Time - Reshelled and he can get halfway through the new Rocket Knight Adventures too. We also play Motorstorm: Pacific Rift 'cos racing monster trucks is awesome. He tried to explain Noby Noby Boy to his teacher one morning, which was rather entertaining..... They get a couple of half hour sessions a week before bed as long as they've been behaving and a go on a Saturday morning. Their Mum and I won't allow them to play all the time: reading and playing outside are much more important.
Rugby has two distinct games, Rugby Union and Rugby League. Polo is a miniority sport as is croquet although Wimbledon is in fact the The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and Tennis is quite a watched / played sport in the UK. Snooker, Darts and Lawn Bowls are more well known UK sports with most champions being from the UK, although other countries are catching up, China is becoming a hotbed of Snooker players. The UK is home to a lot of Motorsports too and I can see Yakumo taking his kid to a karting track. When I travel I tend to watch UK based sports regardless of who is playing, watched a palestinian cricket match in Tel Aviv, Lawn Bowls in Hong Kong and even Darts in Australia. Back on topic, games for kids are good as studies have shown that kids who play games that make them think tend to better in nursery school then kids that don't, however violent games have shown to have a more negative effect. So hope you are introducing tetris and puyo puyo to your little one Yakumo. I remember playing Tomy Blip when I was very young and remember getting a Acetronic MPU-1000 for christmas in 1980 (although really wanted an Atari VCS) and lots of electronic games.
I believe I played videogame kiosks at the mall long before I ever had my own system. My parents got me a Gameboy when I was like 4 (with Super Mario Land), but they decided I was too young for it (WTF?!). I think I was like 5 or 6 when I got my Genesis - that was my first console. I loved it.
I agree that gaming with in a limit is good for young kids. It dies help with motorskills and thinking but by no means should a young child be playing any war or fighting games. My son can play racing games, cute games and pair matching type stuff. He loves it all. This is how I want to keep it. I never play anything with blood, hard language or any conflict in from of him. In fact I don't even game in front of him unless it's one if his kids games. Of course interaction with other kids is important and should rank higher than gaming but gaming is not a way to fry your kids brains as some idiot on YouTube commented on my video. Yakumo
You told us your first console was a PS2 a couple of years ago... Yakumo, it's good to see your boy is taking after your footsteps. And for the whingers on Youtube, everything is fine in moderation.
I don't think so... My 1st was a master system at age 6 Before that I was gaming on a Tandy color computer. Those were the days
mmm Tandy. I think my dad still has a TSR-80 in storage somewhere. My first PC was a Tandy 1000hx. Thank god DeskMate was so horrible, it forced me into learning dos at an early age.
Today my son crashed Hydro Thunder. Not sure how he did it but he fell right through the track in to a never ending drop. He should get a job as a play tester  Yakumo
When are you guys, Yakumo and Tatsujin, planning to infect your kids with the Saturn & PC Engine viruses?
I think gaming for youngsters should be limited to a certain amount of time spent playing along with certain types of games they get to play/see being played. I also like the idea of a kids getting brought up with video-games but i'd want them to be a bit like me as they get a bit older where although i had PS1 and played it all the time i still managed to go outside with friends to play football, run about, cycling...etc which helped me get exercise whilst having fun and i didn't spend all day (i did do that sometimes though) sitting in front of a TV glued to a console.
