Of course there were, but nobody was playing them since most of the great games were only released in Japan. There were good games, but the tough part is finding the games that have aged well/were any good to begin with, since you can't trust the reviews from that era.
I disagree about Toh Shin Den completely. Granted it might not look the best 17, yes, 17 years after its initial release but it still plays well and that's all that matters. It plays a damn sight better than the first Tekken anyway, that's for sure.
...you even played that recently? It takes like a second for your character to react after you press a button. It's a stiff, clunky mess of a game.
Yep, I last played it about 2 months ago. The Japanese version is still nice to play, maybe you're basing your opinion on the PAL version, which being non-optimised is a bit of a pig to play due to the speed drop.
I was born in 81, and while I enjoyed games all through my early childhood, I only had my first system of my own (we had my siblings' two 2600's since before I was born) until I was 8. Ah, the Commmodore 64. Already obsolete at the time - but we had it at school (that, and Apple 2) and my father got me one too. I was the only one who knew how to use it at the computer lab because of that! I'm never going to have children, for a lot of reasons that would be very long to discuss. Still, if I had one, I'd make sure that he/she experiences gaming and computing like I did. It gave me computer skills and language skills (everything was in English) that have been pretty much the main reason I've obtained all the jobs I've ever had. Whenever I see little kids learning to play, I get nostalgic about an era that they will never live. Hell, even young adults - like the other day, I was showing my girlfriend (she's closer to Ave's age than to mine) some PSX and PS2 games from when I was around her age, and she was quite puzzled by them. I just bought her a PS2 and I'll get her some awesome games for her to experience them just at the age when I did. It's gonna be rad.
You have a much younger girlfriend than yourself? What are you the Mexican me? Only with opposite luck with the other gender?
Always good playing with women much younger then you There does seem to be a 1975 club forming as I was also born in 1975. With all of these people living (mainly...) in Japan.
Indeed, a lot of the 75's live in Japan, it seems. And yes, I do have a girlfriend much younger than myself. It is quite fun, if you ask me. Am I the mexican version of God of Hardcore? I used to have lousy luck with the females, but lately, ever since my late 20s (with only two horrendous dry spells and ultra depressive break-ups and infidelities), I've been having awesome, awesome years. Maybe financial stability, much more than I had in my early twenties (and being more independent and whatnot) is a factor. Also, younger girls find young teachers very sexy. It's like a fetish amongst educated young women (or those whose aspirations include education), it seems.
