Was Ninja Blade what you were thinking of? As far as hidden or underrated games, I really liked Crackdown on the 360. A lot of people didn't, for whatever reason, but it was one of the few open world games I've really enjoyed. Jumping from building to building made the game so much more fun than all the GTA clones out there.
Yes it was Ninja Blade. it's a bit slow paced for me but I think those looking for a new 3rd person slasher for 360 would enjoy it.
I really loved Binary Domain, played through once definitely need to revisit that one. Ninja Blade was alright I didn't enjoy the QTEs much though. On 360 I thought Golden Fantasia X was a really good & solid 2D fighter that betrayed its presentation. Nurarihyon no Mago was another anime fighter on ps360 that was a lot more fun then I expected, great with a few other players. Shooting Love 200x is another title I'll break out with mates around, the shmups skill test part in particular. On Ps3 I reckon Trinity Souls of Zill O'll was fantastic it presents like an RPG but it's actually a good beatemup. Not talked about much but some very vocal fans. I have Aquanauts Holiday and really enjoyed it but that was for $40 I dunno if it's worth what it goes for unless you're really into the deep sea and/or ganja. Vampire Rain: Altered Species is considered rubbish by most but I completed it & loved every minute. I've got a pretty big ps3 collection with a hefty dose of what's unpopular so there's tons more games I could mention here. I played a ton of Zenkoku Dekotora Matsuri on Wii. It's barely even a game but whatever, I've got a solid gold truck. Came with a really nice scale model Dekotora. It's amazing how nice trucks can be when they're not out making your day to day commute less pleasant. Also Cruisin' was so spastic and absurd that was one of my favourites. I have this game I've never put enough time into 'Sd Gundam Scad Hammers' it seemed like quite a playable 2d action game but I dunno. I think Ilvelo and Ilvelo Still included with Radirgy Noah were the best thing on the Wii for me. Finally want to rep the Disaster Report/Zettai Zetsumei Toshi series for the unique atmosphere and overall maturity of the games. Maybe the best use of dodgy controls and an unstable framerate I've ever seen. Not even joking about this (adds to the dramatic tension etc). Also Chaindive on PS2, really atmospheric and grappling around soaring through the air felt great, there were some bits that were awful on occasion but the soundtrack was so nice. About that though I looked to see if it had been released but no luck so I tried recording the music from the ps2 with my Sony Mini Disc recorder & an optical cable but the MD gave me a copy protection error. Fuck them I paid for the system, game & MD recorder and that's how they want to be. Great game though. One more PS2 title I thought Shinsengumi Gunrouden was a really nice samurai action title with an interesting timing based fighting system. It came out in PAL territories with no 60hz option which is just horrible, so glad those days are behind us. I recently had another go at 'Clash King v201' on DS it's a racing game where you have to run into stuff to get enough charge meter to stay ahead, there's just something about this game, I really like it. Never seen anyone mention it. Also obscure by virtue of extreme region locking the dsiware Nanashi no Game Cursed platformers (ノロイ ノ ゲエム 血/獄) are absolutely brilliant. Some of the nastiest most hateful platforming I've ever done.
Yeah I'm working on getting a Large PS3 collection before I move on to PS4. The PS3 is fast becoming my favorite console next to the Saturn. I will defiantly check out Trinity Souls of Zill O'll. How is Neverdead? That's a game that screams Hidden gem. But then again I tried Remember Me another game that didn't get much love and I didn't really care for outside how pretty it was.
Crimson skies No, not the Xbox one, as awesome as it was. I'm talking about the original one, released on PC in 2000. Based on the story of a board game of the same name (But only the story. Gameplay is vastly different), Crimson skies takes places in the year 1937. Prohibition and Influenza outbreaks have torn apart the united states, which are now several countries. Because the roads were closed, due to influenza outbreaks, Zeppelin and plane travel became more and more common. Planes and zeppelins became more advanced, and soon Zeppelins that could store several planes and be used as a home were common. This gave way to several groups of sky pirates, and soon every plane and zeppelin had defenses on them. You play as the leader, Nathan Zachary, of one of these pirate groups, The Fortune Hunters. The Fortune Hunters are not your usual pirates, as they only rob those who can afford it, and are usually a lot more merciful than other sky pirate gangs. You play through several of the group's adventures in this arcade flight game. It has more "realistic" controls than it's sequel, High road to revenge (The xbox game you are probably familiar with), and has a lot more customizability and realism. A joystick is very recommended for this game, due to the more realistic controls. The multiplayer, however, does not work anymore due to MSN's Zone being shut down. Despite this, there is still a small community of Crimson Skies fans who have created their own software which allows for multiplayer in their own lobby. This group is called Digital Blood Sports. Unfortunately, the engine has not aged well, and can not go above 1280x1024, unless you install the 1.02 patch and the High resolution fix for it. Without these, the game will be very graphically glitchy and slow on modern systems, and will even crash. It's very cheap on amazon, being only 3$ for a jewel case. It's definitely an underappreciated game
Neverdead is a pretty great game! You play as a guy that could take his body parts off and reconnect them by holding a button. And he carries a sword & dual weapons, you use the sword with the right stick (when targeting enemies) and you have great upgrade abilities to get etc.. It's definitely a very good hidden gem for sure! so i say, give a go!
The controls make a lot more sense when you realise that P.N.03 is actually a rhythm game. I always thought The Club was a bit of an overlooked gem. It's a third-person shooter by the Project Gotham Racing guys, and it borrows its scoring system from those games. So rare to have a score-focused FPS/TPS of any sort, and I got a lot of fun out of it. Shame it never took off, though.
I finished PN03 in "third person shooter" mode and i didnt see any rhythm. Just a good game with horrendous controls.
The most attention The Club ever got was when Sega accidentally shipped some PC copies without product keys, and then gave out tons of replacement keys that could apparently be used for any game on Games for Windows Live.
nahh, here's two REAL gems! :smile-new: (sadly, they seem to be recorded on a...'SPIT' emulator as the sound is muffled/filtered and a bit glitchy) ... Cardiaxx :cocksure: ... slam-tilt - table, ace of space :boxing:
I played a lot of obscure MS-DOS games, and one of them is Charlie the Duck 2... It's an awesome platforming game that remembers me a lot of Mario, but there are a lot of creative ideas on it's gameplay...
I always forget the old DOS games I played so much as a kid. Favourites were Captain Comic and Shadow Knights but I'm forgetting tons of others. Just remembered Warlords (the strategy game not the old atari game) I had a lot of fun with that one and remember being blown away by the sound since we had just got a new sound card. Always walk past Neverdead and it's always on special but never cheap enough. I want to pay between four and fifteen dollars for a new copy and I swear it'll happen if I just wait it out. I wonder how many people have played Power Strike II on the master system, don't think it got a release outside PAL territories and it's pretty amazing in all aspects, great old compile shooting with stunning presentation. Sometimes it's possible to find a copy for a price that isn't insane, got mine boxed for $20. When the SMS was my main console back in the day I never even saw a copy of this on the shelves. Also Ufouria/Hebreke on NES I borrowed this off a mate and played all the way through, great open platformer. Recently I got the ps1 version on psn and found they had completely changed some of the characters for the western version, never knew before that. Maybe my favourite NES game anyway.
Speaking of DOS games have you ever played any of the Amazon Trail games? me & my older bro always fool around with the boat trying to figure out where to go or if not we usually crash on purpose Lmao!
^ I never knew about those games but they look cool for sure. Thinking back I spent a shocking amount of time on Dangerous Dave & the Haunted Mansion but could never finish it, then we had a Japanese student boarding for a while and I saw him beat the game with ease. Also remember this weird adventure game on multiple 5 1/4" floppies and all it was that I can remember was going around picking up bits of rubbish. I found it strangely endearing but I can't remember the title.
The best i can think of what game your thinking of is probably King's Quest type adventure games, Dizzy series, Treasure Mountain (Greastest education platformer type game ever made in my childhood!), or one of those first person/third person point & click games. btw, did this Japanese student ever happen to have any Japanese computer games he'd brought to school? i'm pretty sure he hasn't but just wondering
PC Gems could be their own topic. Does anybody even collect old PC games I think Only Metal Jesus rocks does.
The guy at Lazy Game Reviews has a massive old PC collection. I actually sent him a PC light gun (which I didn't even know was a thing until I got it in a box of other stuff) a month or so ago. No idea if it worked, as I don't have a Game Port on any of my computers.
