You almost won the game, there. But I think the Mac Mini is the only one compatible. Are there any other neat-o OSs out there? Amiga 4.1 looks fun, but I'll have to check about compatibility. Twimfy: Hell yes. phate: I have no idea what these are going for. I do know they weigh a TON (and a half) so shipping would be extreme. What I really wish I could do is somehow compress it so that it magically turns into a 12" Powerbook that I could pretend is an oversized netbook. Sure would be lighter and more compact than my Vostro, but as it stands they're about equal.
Zing! But honestly, it may if you add enough vodka... You joking right? Those things are HUGE, you can fit any ATX mobo easily
I have a special mutant power for attracting old and ailing computers and making them work. The only one that never came back to life was a fucking eMac. So I gutted it and my (now deceased) cat Pocky used to sleep in it. My (living) cats still play in it and stuff.
alecjahn: seriously you should try installing Amiga OS4 (it is possible now via some kind of software. Google it) and then you will have a fun time with it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0Z0fp77Ubs
Now, WolvieDK's idea, I like. If only there were some sort of compatible joypad or something, you could have a KICKASS gaming machine like the amiga.
I quickly looked into OS4 but not very much. It's certainly something I want to try. For now I've been using it as a supplimentary recording device on the other side of the room, I installed Reaper onto OSX 10.5.? and it runs like a champ... until I put too many effects on one channel.
Well, and if I am not mistaken then there is even an emulation package for OS4 that can run the old Amiga games too, and oh by the way OS4 has a Linux kernel in it. If I am not mistaken too. But the mainpoint is, Do not trash the Mac, cause it can really be an awesome machine if you know what to do. And oh by the way check out http://www.linux.org/dist/list.html and then choose the language you want, and then choose PPC as the platform and you should be happening after a while with pure Linux for PPS
AmigaOS 4.0 (not sure about 4.1 ATM) has a build-in MC68020 emulation that enables some "classic" Amiga SW to run, but long not all, esp. not games (maybe a few that were coded OS conform and are HDD installable). I got OS4 on an actual Amiga running here It's really nice IMO.
I had an Apple Mac tower unit the same as that and gave it away! I still have an old G3 version of it lurking right at the back of the attic somewhere. I should dust it down and turn it into a coffee dispenser or something. Can't think a G3 would be much use to anyone these days. Cost me a fortune at the time. OH:
I've had OSX and YDL (which was preceeded by Ubuntu, I figured I'd play the field a bit) on it for a week or so. My qualm with straight linux is the lack of PPC flash support... If I could get an HTML5 browser on it that would help, too. But then I have my PC(s) for that, as usual. I'd like to make it a tool instead of just a toy. Hence the recording usage it's been getting. I'm certainly afraid for now that I've got too much comfort in what I had already to make it an integral part of this room. I still haven't done all the research I should have, but it looks like AmigaOS might be out of the question... unless I just haven't read the right thing? The last thing I read was that PPC MacMini's had some support, but not even necessarily full support.
