Well the year is nearly up and I've managed to get this far and not buy a single new game at all. Not a single game on the PS3 has managed to grab my attention at all, although there are a few that I'll wait until they are second hand to buy. GT5 will probably be delayed and if it is then I'll just wait until next year to buy it. F1 2010 looks good but I can't bring myself to buy a copy until it's cheaper. Not a FPS fan so not going to buy any of these anyway and there has not been much else, especially any Japanese PS3 exclusives that are not RPGs / ADVs. The last new game I bought was Trigger Heart Excelia on the PS2 last year and it's been nearly 2 years since I bought a new game on the PS3. Initial D and Little Big Planet were the last two I bought new. Was given GTA4 and Uncharted Collection so never really bought them. A lot of games that are on the PSN network that are games that would have been released on disc on the PS2 with a ton of extras and I would like to buy but I don't do digital distribution. It's a gateway to hell kids. So this might be the first year in a long time that I fail to buy a single new game which is rather depressing.
Bought about 10 or so all for the 360. No war based FPS games though. They just don't interest me at all. To me the 360 is like the console that Sega wanted the DC2 to be. Last game bought on real media was Enslaved and I'm loving it. Looking forward to Mind Jack next year
I make a list of upcoming games at the beginning of the year and update it quarterly. I usually end up getting about three quarters of them with most Wii games getting pushed to the back of the line. Some also end up biting me in the ass because I wait too long. I just know I'm going to feel raped when I finally pick up a limited edition copy of Assassin's Creed II PS2 Sakura Wars: So Long My Love Premium Pack 03/30/2010 $39.99--------COMPLETE PS3 Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City 03/30/10 $39.99 God of War III Ultimate Edition 03/16/10 $99.99 Gran Turismo 5 Collector’s Edition 11/02/10 $99.99 Castlevania: Lord of Shadows Limited Edition 10/05/2010 $79.99 Yakuza 3 03/09/10 $54.99--------COMPLETE Medal of Honor: Limited Edition 10/16/10 $59.99--------COMPLETE Front Mission Evolve 09/14/10 $59.99 Final Fantasy XIII 03/09/10 $59.99--------COMPLETE Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition 03/09/10 $49.99--------COMPLETE XBOX 360 Bioshock 2 02/09/10 $59.99--------COMPLETE Dead Rising 2: High Stakes Edition 08/31/10 $89.99--------COMPLETE Halo: Reach: Legendary Edition 09/14/10 $149.99 Call of Duty: Black Ops Hardened Edition 11/0910 $79.99 Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition 10/19/10 $79.99 Fable 3 Limited Edition 11/01/10 $79.99 Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Collector’s Edition (Gamestop Version) 11/16/10 $99.99 Wii Super Mario Galaxy 2 05/23/10 $49.99 Sin & Punishment: Star Successor 06/27/10 $49.99 Metroid: Other M 08/31/10 $49.99 Goldeneye 007 10/26/10 $49.99 Epic Mickey Collector’s Edition 11/30/10 $69.99
So far, this year I got: Etrian Odyssey III (best game of the year) Pokemon SoulSilver (yeah yeah, hush) Super Mario Galaxy 2 Bit.Trip RUNNER Cave Story Sonic 4
I've bought far too many games this year some of which I'll never play too due to the fact I've bought them for my oldest two kids and my wife. If it's just games bought for my own use I've bought maybe 3 or 4....in truth I've spent more on hardware than software for myself this year.
1, I've bought GTA IV when Steam had it on sale - but I haven't even downloaded it yet. 2, Got myself a Gameboy Micro, which happened to include one of the Castlevania titles. Haven't touched that one either. 3, Batallion Wars for the GC. The only one I've actually played. I'm keeping busy mostly with the huge backlog of DOS titles that I never finished, and the odd free indie PC game. Couldn't care less for 99.99% of the stuff coming out nowadays.
Let's see: War for Cybertron SSFIV Sin & Punishment 2 Monster Hunter 3 Red Dead Redemption Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Arkham Asylum off the top of my head. So that's a pretty nice amount of games (even not counting XBLA games), still waiting for NBA Jam (I just checked, apparently it's out in Europe now!) and the new NFS by Criterion.
When you say "new games" you are actually referring to new releases, bought new in a shop or online? In that case: ZERO. I did buy qubed (360) though, but it wasn't a recent release when I bought it for 20 quid shipped from the US. The other 360 game I got this year is Episodes from Liberty City (GTA IV content) on disc for 15 Euros, used and about 9 months after release.
Hmm, if we are talking about buying in the shops then I have 0. It's far cheaper for me to import all of my 360 games from Hong Kong. Even after shipping I'm still getting my games about 2000 yen cheaper than the Japanese store price. I do buy used games from Japanese stores though.
I think I only have bought 1 game by myself this year from a shop, but also it was not a new game release but just a new copy of Castlevania Judgment from Softmap for 980 yen.
If we are talking games in general then this year i've bought more games then I have in a long time (mostly over my recent arcade & gundam purchases). But if you want to limit only to games released this year, i've still bought about 3ish and would probably buy a few more if I knew that I would play them now and not wait till next year (when I probably could buy them later at a cheaper price). Favorite "new game" so far this year is still Yakuza 3 for me. =)
