I have to concur with this statement. Although, living in Japan is quite great if you ask me. If I could move my family and friends here I'd stay here over the States any time. But to "ME" as in someone coming from a different culture, there are things that have surprised me in Japan. Coming from America where anything sexual is deemed evil most of the time (while not many believe it, the culture as a whole is more strict on sexual things) I was surprised at the amount of nudity and sexual innuendo in CHILDREN'S manga. Of course it was all light hearted and comical, but that kind of thing wouldn't fly in America normally. However it is sold there...I think recently there was a law overturned that said any depiction of sexually suggestive materials involving children is not considered child porn if it's in cartoon form (ie. manga)...so I'm fuzzy on this. Still surprised me to see it though.

Also, I've just seen very amusing things. But living here, and knowing some of Japan's reputation in the world...I enjoy it. I like the fact that Japan has eccentric things everywhere. The whole "kawaii" thing within Japan is funny. I'd never see so many cute mascots in America for serious businesses or government programs, but in Japan it's everywhere :110:

What IS the deal with used panties in vending machines? I know they put everything you can think of in vending machines over there, but aren't used panties just gross and unsanitary?

 

I've only ever seen 1 used panty machine in a seedy part of Shinjuku. The panties are clean as in there's no stains but they do come with a picture of the girl that supposedly had wore them. For how long the girl has these panties on for I don't know.

HOw do I know this information? Well, there was a documentary on TV a few years back showing their discuss in the seedy underworld of japan. It was 99% sex stuff and 1% drugs mind you. I've become somewhat desensitized to gore...but some shit still disturbs me (like those beheading vids that came out a few years ago on ogrish of kidnapped people...the sounds, not the images is what got me) and any kind of animal mutilation or abuse bothers me. And no I'm not some PETA freak...I just don't like to see innocent animals suffer. I'm fine with hunting as long as they kill it quick.

I remember rotten.com from school days as well. I was thinking about it last night and wondering how they ever afforded to keep it up and running, fuck knows how many people were visiting that site back then - everyone I knew seemed to know of it. Their bandwidth bills must've been astronomical.

 

I always refused to look at that shit. I think Goatse and tubgirl are the only ones I ever found funny just because there were fun to reference. I hate the violent shit. I hated how a few of my friends thought they were badass by watching shit like that.

 

Believe me, I really don't like it...but it was like one of those "car wreck" situations. You don't really want to see it but you're just super curious.

Recently I went back into that one site I posted on here. You know the one that caused everyone to go apeshit and say I was worse than Gaijinpunch...lol. Anyways I went in there and aside from a few things, I wasn't shocked at all. Pictures of guts, like the stomach, intestines, etc, however makes me cringe almost all the time.

I did see a picture of two little boys from Germany or somewhere around there (it was in the German news anyway) who were killed by getting bludgeoned to death with a hammer to their heads by their babysitter because the kids belonged to her former boyfriend...it sounds like a European version of a white trash psycho bitch. I felt bad for them, they had little holes all over their skulls going deep into their brain.

 

I've seen fucked up shit on the internet since i was 12 or 13 years old. I was shown tubgirl back then and saw rotten.com around the same time. I saw goatse when i was 14. I used to be grossed out by it, now I'm pretty desensitized to it. I saw the Nick Berg beheading and it took me a few pauses to get through it.

I've seen worse now and are kinda unphased. Every once in awhile the images pop into my head randomly and i get startled and shrug it off. etc.

back to SCAT though. The worst stuff I've seen comes from Brazil. Hardly any from Japan. However, I did see this one video sophomore year of a man with a respirator mask and hose attached to a funnel on the bottom of a chair that a girl pooped in and he ate it all. Kinda funny, pretty gross.

But, the last time I was actually SHOCKED was on WTFPeople.com my 17th birthday. This Japanese girl was being bound up in red tape, she wasn't resisting. Eventually everything was covered. Her face included and you heard her screaming for help. she couldn't move. she was flopping around and the video ended. My friends had to calm me down. I NEEDED to know what happened.

I saw a corpse get defiled in a morge, and on 4chan I saw a series of images of a girl that was in being encased in a cube of concrete and then a guy having sex with her (those were watermarked and timestamped - that was probably faked). Corpsechan most likley real :-\ Wish I never saw it.

I'm not defending what GoH said in anyway, but he's not being a racist bigot. Ignorant maybe, but not racist...he didn't use any slurs or condemn the Japanese people as a whole...just made an ignorant assumption based off of things he saw on the internet...
