Apperently, the socket the fridge was plugged into caught on fire. The entire back side of the fridge is burnt to hell, the socket is pretty much fucked, and the floor is charred. Good thing my step father was home, or it would have spread quickly, since the fridge was right next to the wooden part of the wall.

Thing is, it was a fairly old Frigidaire. Its been in the house since we got it, (Guessing maybe a 96 model). I looked it up online, and others apperently had fires as well with their fridges.

wow good thing it wasent bad man. Fire is one of my prime concerns but someone is always home at my house (7 ppl in my family) so that makes feel somewhat better.

Maybe there is a way to sue them or something if its a common problem and they didnt issue a recall on them.

On a 96 old fridge? Impossible. Its 11 years old. No guarantee will ever keep up that long!

We are going to contact our insurance about it Lawsuit would be sort of pointless, since it was a somewhat small fire.

Funny you should mention that. My parents do not drink (They are Muslim), and I only drink on occasion, yet we have a beer that has been in the fridge since we moved in. Its about 10 years old, and we keep it in there for pretty much no reason besides as a charm of sorts.

I had something similar happen with our dishwasher. Plugged it in and fire started coming out of the thing (and no, the electrics werent wet, unless it leaked inside). I think it was a screwed up wire. Anyway, scary experience for sure, fires one of my biggest fears

I have a fear of my multiple sockets and surge protectors suddenly catching fire...

One of them is next to my bed, very close to the covers.

As long as you don't overload the socket then it won't happen (or the probability is so small you'll win the lottery first).

I think the big ol silver boxes break at 20A.

In perspective, my laptop's charger uses 3.25A.
