Yeah but I ideally want one with S-Video, and I don't have a car so my only option is the BHF in town. I've been trying to get a image of the SCPH-1000 motherboard and compare to my 1002 to see if there is any headers or maybe traces I can follow to install a S-Video port back again. Will probably end up buying a 1000 model eventually.
They all have S-Video - it's just that ever since the SCPH-1000 it's only been connected on the Multi-AV socket rather than on a dedicated S-Video socket. All you need is a a PlayStation S-Video cable. And, if for some reason you can't use RGB, then S-Video is a good choice. My comment about it being pointless was in the context of already having both RGB and composite available - the only reason you would switch from RGB to composite would be to get rid of the artifacts - and in that case, Y/C wouldn't be likely to help you much.
