This thread is about how Wii sells so far in your local stores. Here in UK, Liverpool, the Wii has been selling like hot-cakes. Within the 10 minutes that i was in GAME looking for some memory cards, there were 3 non-gamer demographics (including women, girls, and university students) all rabbidly looking for a Wii, just to be turned down because every place was out of stock. Too bad for nintendo, these people were CASH IN HAND asking for a console. Very bright so far. Regarding Athens, Greece, the Wii has no interest at all. People have ignored it, and no one is buying it. You can easily score a PAL version Wii from Greece at any shop. No pre-ordering mess, no inflated prices. On a side note, Zelda does not support EDTV/HDTV (based on the package writings) in the PAL version, whereas suprisingly both Rayman and Red Steel do support 50/60 Hz and EDTV/HDTV cable (whereas the US version of Rayman does not). Let's hear your story ;-)
The Greeks are a bit behind on newer technology, no offense intended. That was my experience in Crete anyway, I'm not sure about the mainland! Maybe in a few years. Culturally games aren't as important over there anyway, family life and engaging socially are more important (and despite the Wii being a family machine, I think games are still mainly soloist pursuits). I haven't seen much of a shortage of Wii in New Jersey, not to the levels of the DS anyway. I wonder if the Wii might suffer from the popularity of the DS in some ways, especially considering the price point of DS software as it stands at present. That is definitely the new mass market gaming device, set to take the place of the PS2 as that dies off. If Nintendo could make the DS and Wii essential bed fellows then they'd score a lot more sales I reckon. One conflict that wasn't evident between the GBA and the Gamecube, but is present here, is that you can't use the DS as naturally with Wii software because of the motion sensing, where the GBA -> GC hook up had immediate logical benefits (though too bad these weren't realised to their fullest potential).
This statement does not hold water. Greece is very upfront in their adoption rate of new technologies from gadgets to motor vehicles (primarily cars) However, the mainland is a HUGE PlayStation brand fan since day one (due to the fact tha PSone could be moded to play pirates). Nintendo's "kiddy" image makes greek gamers distant to the brand. this is the reason the PSP outsells the DS in greece. Also, the SHITTY NORTEC (nintendo's rep in greece) do next to NOTHING for the brand. No adverts. No promotions. Not even support! My gf was looking for mariokart DS and she was told that "it's an old game. We don't restock titles" - They re that lame. Many of us greek gamers have protested to Nintendo of Germany to relieve NORTEC of their duties , because they re doing absolutely nothing. Even the Wii promotion was PAID and supplied by NOG, because Nortec didn't want to rent a hotel to host the event. In this respect, Greece doesn't know about the Wii. There's ZERO media coverage. the only gaming magazine (GAMES) has stopped publishing nintendo-related information (in the past it used to ditch nintendo wayyy too much, and they got into fight with NORTEC which expressely prohibited them to print anything relating to nintendo or something along those lines) and word-of-mouth talks PlayStation 3. The XBOX brand is doing relatively well too, due to the "non-kiddy" image of it.
over here they seems to sell pretty well. the store I got mine from had like 80+ preorders and only go like 20-30 Wii's from what I heard. And the most funny thing was that someone called our office and wonderd if we had any Wii for sale.. and we're like: No, we don't sell games.. we make them! xD
(This is where i bitch and complain) Try getting a dammed Wii here in Ontario, Canada. I've tried each day since launch, sat outside bestbuy last friday for 5 hours, only to be person #16 in line for 13 units. I have instant emails being sent to me when a online retailer has them in stock. I've checked the local Real Canadian Superstore each morning before class. Every futureshop and bestbuy within a 50 mile radius gets a nightly phone call from myself.. I'm outside of either Zellers or Walmart each saturday when they open, then off to Futureshop/BestBuy at 10am.....And i still haven't found one of these units. Quite frankly, I'm angered by this, most everyone else has little trouble finding a unit, but i can't seem to catch a break In short, Finding a Nintendo Wii in Ontario, or Canada for that matter is like finding a needle in a haystack Ryan
Down in Sunny Newport What I had heard GAME were doing and this is from quite a few sources Those who had pre-ordered if they were not collected on the 8th they went on general sale OH: And people keep going back to GAME more and more god knows why. I have found recently that HMV offer a better rewards scheme and their on-line prices are now quite competitve. With a bit of luck GAME will be going downhill like Sony  As a rule........all stores around where I am in London are sold out....as are stores where I live. My mates GAMESTATION had a second delivery the othern day but only 20...and this was after their initial delivery of about 20 and all these were for pre-orders. So don`t know how may be in stock soon if there is yet another delivery
hehe I used to live in Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar highschool was the best school ever ^_^ do go to Costa Mesa and Fashion Island
I work in Gamestation, Dundee. We still have 100 odd pre-orders to fill (due in stock soon). We have no Wii-motes left, no Wii play. Running low on everything, since people who have Wiis can't seem to get enough! Though we have had REd Steel traded in already, heh. £28 trade in on Wii launch titles right now!
Here in San Diego, unless you camp out for days or are there right when they get stock, you pretty much cant get one for now. They will probably be easier to get after christmass. Stuff like this makes me miss the september launches.
Freind of mine is the manager of the Epsom store......they had about the same pre-orders.....and I think had a 3rd batch just before xmas to complete about 85% of pre-orders. Same with no Wii-Play`s, controllers, nun-chucks etc But he did get at delivery of about 50-60 DS Lites of which 20 or so were pink as well as the HUGE bundle of 360`s a few weeks before xmas So Gamestation yet again seem to be on the ball and the BEST for the gamer not like GAME who are just a bunch of muppets who fleece people BIG time..............but people keep going back....won`t they learn :banghead:
Wii has become the definition of video games! for example, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Advantage and you ll see that down in the page, where it reads: This article about computer and video game hardware is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.
today i walked in a walt mart and a local video game shop, they both had around 4-5 ps3 units each, but no Wiis.
Sorry, the Wiis. But then the gentleman told me, "But we have a whole lotta PS3's!" I told him I wasn't interested.
SONY's shelf presence has always been better than nintendo's even at high-stock periods. This time around they re not moving consoles though. Comes to show that a brand-name without good games to launch might be in for a hard start. I m really curious to see when will quality titles arrive (with Lair being the only one comming to mind any-time soon). Will SONY regain customer confidence by then though? The 360 has covered a lot of ground and is a rational choice with its bit catalogue of games. (although only lately have quality titles become a frequency)
I've seen PS3 units all over the place. I have *never* seen a Wii at retail except when I picked up my pre-ordered unit on launch day at midnight.
Well, imho Nintendo did just that. Launch a weak console with mostly minigame collections and apart from maybe zelda no good games. Yet it still sells because of some overhyped controller, which i doubt will see much use (like how most DS games use the touchscreen in a REVOLUTIONARY way.... *cough*)
