Even the small amount of power that is used while the console is off but PSU plugged in is worth saving. It may not in total be much but you're getting nothing out of it, and technically you may be putting wear on those power supplies just by having them plugged in all the time. In the summer they're generating heat that your cooling system just has to remove. Though in the winter time you get some of the energy back as heat. =)
Of course MottZilla I agree, I'm probably going to buy some smart power strips in the near future at least to ease my energy-saving endeavour. However, I'm not really concerned about the wear down of power supplies because they can easily be fixed. There are no secret in a PSU, you can rebuild a custom one pretty easily if you cannot find the problem with the stock one.
I've been on the constant search for a magical gazillion input receiver to have everything in the same place, powered, and with the ease of remote control , but have failed so far to find the ideal one. So like many others I have a big CRT (nothing fancy, late model 29" Samsung CRT), and have 2 A/V switches, one for the component stuff (Xbox, PS2, Wii/WiiU), and another for the S-Video/Composite stuff (NES, SNES, N64, DC), and leave one front end auxiliary input for consoles I don't play much and have stowed away like Megadrive, SegaCD, 32x, Saturn. Then on another room I have 2 cubes each connected via component to small LCDs, with the Xbox 360 and PC. As for the PSUs, I have power strips with individual on/off switches for each, which I turn on or off as needed, because besides having the PSU consuming when idle, being in Uruguay I need stepdown converters for all the PSUs, so that's more power consumed.
I have a two TV setup. A 42" Panasonic HDTV with my Xbox 360s, PS3, Wii, GameCube, HD-DVD player, and Laserdisc player hooked up to. The sound for all of them is hooked up to a pre-HDMI Pioneer 5.1 receiver via optical or coaxial audio connections, with various external switches and converters. Second TV is a 29" Sony Trinitron SDTV that I have all my retro consoles hooked up to. NES, Super Famicom, N64, Genesis/Sega CD/32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, 7800, Jaguar, PS2. They're all plugged into a Technical Pro PS-89 for power. It's got individual switches for each outlet, so the systems I'm not using don't get any power at all. Their A/V signals are all connected through a Pelican System Selector Pro switch box. I'm working on redoing the whole retro setup with RGB. Since I live in the good old USA, where we don't believe in RGB inputs, I've got a Kramer FC-14 to transcode RGB to component. I made a SCART to BNC adapter that I made so I can use SCART cables with the FC-14. Currently, I'm on the lookout for a good SCART switchbox to use in place of the System Selector Pro, or to use in conjunction with it.
Neo Geo AES -RGB-> Frame Meister -HDMI-> Yamaha AV Receiver WiiU -HDMI-> Yamaha AVR Yeah, I only have two consoles connected to the living room telly. The Atomiswave, PGM and MVS live in the New Astro City. The PS3 and 360 share the Black Storm LCD cabinet.
