I don't even consider myself a collector, and I am running out of valuable living space... Countless boxes with MSX hardware, games and periferrials. Bizzare stuff like Atari Falcon 030, SEGA Teradrive, IBM PC XT, Tandy 1000RX and matching monitors, 5 Xboxes, 30+ SEGA consoles, 15+ Nintendo consoles etc. etc. It's all fun and games, but it does indeed degrade the quality of living. I sometimes have this urge to just f*cking sell / give away everything ASAP and start living like a normal guy, without stockpiles of geeky junk all around me... Am I the only one like this? Or you struggle with storage/space issue as well?
I tend to sell off the majority of my unplayed stuff regularly for that reason. I hate clutter. That's not to say I go and sell off ALL my stuff...I keep certain consoles around just to play 1 or 2 games that I consider true classics (ie: Dreamcast for Shenmue and Soul Calibur) and any really rare or dev stuff I managed usually stays in my collection. But it makes no sense to hold onto some huge library of N64 or Sega Saturn games that you never play just to have it...unless you're planning to open some games museum, what sense does it make?
Eh, I just let it pile up. Every time I get things organized and on to shelves, I just buy something else anyway. It's fairly neat though...most games are on shelves, and extra consoles are usually stacked up or in a closet somewhere.
My method is just putting stuff wherever I can find room at the moment lol. Its definatly an issue, i Just cant decide how id like to store things
All games sorted alphabetically by title. Each console has a space somewhere - PS2, Xbox, N64, PC Engine and a few more odds and sods are in an upright DVD stand. Gamecube and DC games are in a spare drawer, PAL saturn (since they're an odd shape) are on a shelf. Consoles are laid out on a table with an amp and turntable, with all consoles visible and with one controller per console attached. Various TV leads, Extra controllers etc. are cable tied together, and in a big plastic box. Console and large accessory boxes are in drawers under my bed. Works pretty damn well, nothing seems to go wrong with it
My problem is when I move to japan. I'll need a removal firm to get all my shit accross. I might sell by bigger consoles and buy them again in japan. I worked for a summer to buy some great fitted cupboards for my room, just loads of space. Just look into some creative (probably expensive) solutions. Or just get a warehouse (or bigger place)
Seriously, it's a big problem. Looking at the floor right now I see a System 2.0 card, a PC engine cd , Green dreamcast, and what looks to be a 20 port switch. I've sort of lost count / don't have any idea of what I own anymore...
I live in a 3 bedroom house and i can't even get to the tv anymore because there are so many systems in the way. I've got games and consoles stacked on anything that will support the weight... I'm with assembler, i have no idea what's laying around my house. I lost a stack of GD-R's back when the dreamcast was still in production in the US, and just found it last month... I'm still missing about half a dozen N-Gage protos... Someone asked me how many systems i have and i honestly don't have any idea. You know it's bad when you can't find an Xbox dev kit, and you have 3 of 'em... I stepped on a PS2 proto last month and i found a PSP in my couch... I've got to come up with a way to organize... If you want to see the best use of storage, Yakumo has a thread around here that showcases his awesome space utilization.
This is pretty much how I do things. I have a particular space for all of my games (PC games next to the computer, DC games under the TV, Xbox games in a drawer, etc.). The consoles are kind of thrown about here and there. I have my PS2, Xbox, and Saturn under my bed, two Dreamcasts in my closet, my TEST PS2 in my closet, and an N64 somewhere in the garage. I have two Playstations lying around somewhere, too. In short, my collection is organized like this: Systems = messy, games = orderly.
Exactly whats happening to me now, I find myself buying the same Resident Evil merchandise over and over :crying:
Man, I had that problem until I finally broke down and compiled a list of all my games by system and put it into my wifes pda. Now when I am in a store and am unsure of a purchase I just consult the list. Now I just need to get around to selling all the doubles that I inadvertantly purchased.
