I usually give Ninty a lot of props because they pretty much saved the game industry. From the past five years, the most innovative console was the DC. The internet play was excellent (so I heard... :smt009) and they were the first to really promote it "outta the box." It's the only console you can go online straight out of the box with. I don't think it's fair to say their various accesories never got anywhere though. After all, the console was so short lived, in its life span in the UK/US of little over 2 years, that such things weren't feasible. On the PS2, it took 2 years for internet play to begin, and it was the leader of the pack. :smt043 Of course, the DC also had some shittily implemented ideas, such as the VMU, which in most games does nothing at all. Of course, with more time, we probably would've seen better things, but... :-( Also, their controller should've had 2 analog(ue) sticks, and built in vibration. That lack of a 2nd stick hurts in some games, and the controller was definately a step back from the Dual Shock, imo. Anywho, definately looking forward to the DS, if only for a chance to play a bunch of GBA games I missed, Super Mario 64, and maybe some other random stuff. Though I do wonder about such titles as Feel the Magic, if they will be rather special taste affairs--such as Space Channel 5.
Nintendo didn't go online with the 64dd until February 2000, long after Sega had pioneered true online gaming with the dreamcast. The only true online 64dd games were mario Artist Communication Kitt and Japan pro Golf Tour 64DD, and the only thing Ma let you do was upload pictures to Randnet, and JPGT let you upload results to a league table. Very uninspiring cause I was so excited by the possibilities of the N64DD and to get crap like that in the end was a complete insult. Sega is still the only company along with Microsoft much later to introduce a true online gaming community and the Dreamcast done it with a 56k modem, a truly amazing feat if ever there has been one.Sony still can't get the ps2 online properly and rely on every game studio to set up there own service.Gran Turismo 4 was pushed all through it's dev cycle to be this great online game and what happens, it doesn't have online options included because of some lag problems.......utter crap, Sony are just looking for a way out of maintaining all those servers due to the ps2 online service being extremely unpopular in terms of raw sales.
Well said my friend... I couldn't have put it better. I'm still miffed that other consoles (namely the Xbox of all) don't have true VGA out. I'm playing my Gamcube & Xbox (on occasion) with progressive scan, but VGA just looks better, and couldn't have been THAT hard of a thing to include.
Do yourself a favor and get a hold of the original Mario 64, you won't regret it. I'm a bit apprehensive on Mario 64 DS, as it appears the main character to begin with is Yoshi, who once they decided to give him a voice in Super Smash Bros., is exceeded in utter annoyance only by Pikachu, and not by much at that. :angry
Gotta go with Sega over Nintendo on this one. Nintendo might have the edge in innovation with consoles but Sega far exceeds Nintendo when you factor their influence and innovation in the arcade market. Take that into account and Sega beats Nintendo hands down.
This is what I love about ASSEMbler Such lively and fair sided debates/discussion. rayer: I think after reading everyones thoughts it would appear that the score is about 50/50 Shame I didn`t start the original thread with a poll Or should I?
