If the idea is to stop modders then I hope this is not really hot glue as the stuff is very easy to remove.

Its exactly to stop modders. It was done with the Wii too, they just put glue/epoxy over the points you had to solder in the chip.

But yes, its easy to remove, id imagine its a case of its a cheap fix when you already have all the chips/boards made - rather than scraping them.

The D2E drive for the Wii did this, then they removed DVD reading in the later D3 drives. The glue was a "hot fix". But its a very common one. Its not there to secure the chips soldering - which has been the point in this thread.

They started dumping on epoxy with the later hitachis IIRC. Because people were soldering to unlock them (before it was all solderless)

    I followed this tutorial:
    http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Using_a_Wii_drive_replacement_on_a_GameCube

There is also another option to boot games from sd-card, it has to be modified a memorycard and you need swiss-sd loader, but this option is not as fast as the wii key fusion method, cause the wii key uses the drive-port which is way more faster in data-transfer.

There is also an option available called "MegaDrive" (no not the Sega console) which lets you switch between wiikey fusion and the original gc drive !
It can be bought over here (you need to register):

I scraped the black goup from the top of the encoder in the gba tv adapter (epoxy?), underneath it said cxa2075.
