I've heard 2000 quoted by Jay Smith (the "Man" in the Jag community), who has many, many old papers from Atari. The best figure he could find was 2,000, through his research. (If I'm wrong on the #s though Jason, feel free to slap me around and correct me!)

A Japanese Jaguar is a good find, but still not worth the $200 they typically want for the system, in my opinion. It's a rebadge with Japanese stickers/manuals and a copy of AvP in English. If I came across one, I'd probably plunk down $125-$150, though.

Yeah I think there was 2000 sold maybe,it was a peice of shit, I have to agree with eveyone on that hahaha.

However I spoke to a guy from Atari on Icq one night and he said that about 100,000 were actually produced for the region.I think they sold the ones with jap writing in Hong Kong too, perhaps that is where the extra units lie.

Edit.....Thinking about it as well,no matter how badly you thought you were gonna do,releasing only 2000 to a whole country would have been commercial suicide and not done their launch any favours.I seriously doubt his research is accurate and think the guy I spoke to from Atari is probably correct in his estimate of 100,000 for the whole region.

Another figure put forward was 15,000. I guess the way to think of it is.... we know all the Toys 'r' us stores in Japan were going to get them. How many are there? (more accurately, how many WERE there then) Then, let's think how many units each store would buy. I don't know how big a Japanese Toys 'r' Us is, shall we say 50 units a store?

OK, their site says 145 sites, that would probably have been less back then. Anyway, 50x145=7250. If we doubled this to 100 per store, that would be almost 15,000 - so that figure seems pretty good to me.

    Not that rare

Telegames was selling the Japanese Jaguar at CGE last year in Vegas. Not sure if they will be selling them again. My recollection is that they were $150 at the end of the show with the A v. P pack-in game.

Right, I have done a bit of research on this and spoke to some of my contacts in Telegames. The Jap Jag is not exclusive to Toys R us and never was,it was the major retail chain who stocked them.It was also sold through independents al over Tokyo and a few other cities as well as smaller major retail chains.Telegames also said that they have some left in their US warehouse.
