I have no idea were to even start but I would like my xbox to run on my HD tv . all I can tell you I have a modded xbox with xecuter 3 chip and it has a monster cable had component cable. doe this mean it will automatically run in dh mode or do I have to actually mod the xbox to do so. sorry if this is a simple question but I am a modding noob after all.
Does it have the originl dash, I don't think the XBox can go that high? BTW I hope you didn't buy that cable new, monster cables are a complete rip off haha
it has an xecuter 3 control panel so if I just tap the on button it goes to the custom dash but if I hold the button for 3 seconds it goes to standard dash. no the cable came with the xbox when I bought it. just googled it and apparently only NTSC consoles go that high and only cresting games support that resolution.
with the xbox its similar to the ps2, it depends on the software and of the official titles as well as homebrewn ones there are only a handful that allow you to use progressive scanning, out of those its again only a handful that are capable to output HD resolutions. on the xbox i only know of VBAX to be able to run at 720p/1080i, though there may be official titles that support those resolutions as well. it also has nothing to do with the consoles region, PAL ones can do it too, its just that if an official title had support for progressive scan or HD resolutions, it had those features only in NTSC releases, PAL ones left those out.
Only NTSC consoles can go that high. If you have a modded dash like XBMC or UnleashX there should be a setting to change from PAL to NTSC. Being you have a HD set it should support NTSC video. Check the TV to be sure it does before changing that around. Why bother with 1080i? Not many games used it. 720P should be good enough for most games. Also, you will need component for 1080i and probably 720P to run right. Might run on S video and even composite but I'm not sure since my Xbox runs 480P on component to a NTSC CRT tube.
Yes the dashboard is unleash x , and my tv is a sony Bravia . so when I change the settings in the dash board it should work? also I don not own any NTSC games as my console is PAL . would it make coin ops 5 look and better? i mainly use the xbox for the like likes of black , halo , GTA games , half life 2 and a few others.
Does anybody know about FTP? i recently got coin ops 5 compressed onto a load of discs , so I need to transfer them on to my PC and then put them on the Xbox usin a crossover Ethernet cable plugged into the PC?
Bad information throughout this thread. Let's start from the beginning. The monster component cables are fine. They are nice cables, not worth what they asked for new but perfectly good now. You NEED component cables for anything about 480i, standard definition. You can indeed do both 720p and 1080i. The original dashboard runs at 480i only (without modding), this is to allow for people to change the resolution more easily just in case something got screwed up. Can be modded to run in 480p. Very few games support 720p or 1080i, with more supporting 720p in my experiences. Look up a guide of HD games, such as this, for a full list:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_with_HD_support Notable games include Hulk, Soul Calibur 2, and THUG. Unlike the PS2, a large majority of games run in 480p at least, and many that dont can be modified with little issue to run in 480p using a simple hex edit. You need to set your console to NTSC for it to run in HD resolutions, and there is a possibility that PAL games will give you issues anyway depending on the game.
For the 1080i with UnleashX you have to change the settings, save it, then reboot the console for the changes to take effect. Can't say if it will improve Coinops as I use MAMEoX128 Plus for my arcade emulation. (My machine does have the 128MB RAM mod.) Not sure if there will be a problem with running PAL games in NTSC as all my stuff is NTSC. I don't mess with PAL at all. As for FTP, there are several methods. Direct to PC ethernet port will need the crossover cable. If you run it through a router then standard network cable is needed. UnleashX has a FTP server built in so setting it up is fairly easy. My method involves setting the Xbox network mode to DHCP, getting the IP address, opening a FTP client on my PC, (I use FileZilla. Works perfectly.) and accessing the Xbox from it. My console runs through a router so I have to set it to DHCP to work. Not sure how to do the direct connect to PC method as I never even tried it. If you haven't changed any of the FTP settings in the dashboard settings then to access the console from a FTP PC client you will need the IP address, password, and username. Both will be "xbox" without the quotes. If you also need to specify the port then that will be 21. Again, these are the default settings. If you changed them then use whatever you put in. Google search "Xbox FTP" to get all kinds of info on how to do it with various methods. There is a way to do it with crossover cable to direct PC connect but I'm too lazy to look right now. LOL Just as a side point if it should come up for whatever reason: The method I use explained above still works with the official Xbox wireless adapter. I no longer have to have a 25 foot network cable strung around my front room.
1080i isn't really worth it. 720p runs better and is still hd. There were only like 4 or 5 games that ran at 1080i. XBMC also runs slower in that resolution.
I have component cables and ran XBMC in 1080i but changed to 720p, you can't tell the difference and it's more stable. Also for those wanting to run the stock dashboard in 480p, just pull both triggers and press both thumb sticks at the same time and it will change it, but this only works on the latest dashboard.
1080i on the XBOX is crap, it's laggy and everything. Stick with 720p and games that can display 720p look great
Crossover cables are not really necessary at this point. Most PC NICs handle networking without it at this point. Most of those guides were written 10+ years ago at this point. I just hook up a standard Ethernet cord at this point.
Thanks everyone. so is this correct , run only on 720p , go into the dash board settings and change it to NTSC . now is this on the normal xbox dash board or through the evo dash? regarding FTP just a normal Ethernet from my xbox into my PC motherboard . Do I need any software for this or will it just be found as and external source ? my PC has an asus p5k motherboard and runs XP as at the time I hated vista and never bothered upgrading. and then I just transfer the data onto the harddrive. were on the hard drive should all this stuff be put?
The NTSC settings by UnleashX are not changing the video settings on the EEPROM. So you'll need the Enigmah Xbox PAL-NTSC Switcher. You'll need an FTP program on your PC like Filezilla, and enable FTP through a custom dashboard... Like UnleashX. Install your apps to E:/Apps or F:/Apps it's up to you.
FileZilla: https://filezilla-project.org/download.php Enigmah: http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?n...&lid=2143&ttitle=Enigmah_Videomode_Switchdisc If you just want the Enigmah switcher utility to FTP into the Xbox without needing to burn it to a disk then mount the ISO, open it up, and pull the .xbe out. FTP that to the Xbox HDD.
PAL consoles can do it, but you have to switch them to NTSC mode. It's only really useful for XBMC, but the xbox isn't fast enough to decode most 1080i content.
So I have just been through the xecuter settings by keeping my finger on the white button and it has the options for the various hd settings plus pal and NTSC . it is apparently running at 520i at the momment l but on the actual xbox dash board it says it is set at normal and not 60hz. im confused or should I just go ahead and do the above set up with Enigmah sorry for all the simpleton questions I just want to be sure and not mess my console up. unless somebody lives near Liverpool and wants to visit me?
