Help me choose as I am so divided between these two phones  What would you go for and why? they both will cost me about the same so there is no price issue, it's purely based on where I will find the best experiance. Some Pro's + and Cons IMO HTC Desire (Incredible in the US I think) +Android 2.1 freedom kinda compared to Iphones OS. +Easy access internal/external storage +Multitasking. -'App store' has less to offer atm. -HTC Apple Iphone 3GS +App store is mature and has lots of choice +Cool games (which I am probably not going to play) +Apple/Iphone/Perfect control/interface. -No Multitasking -Itunes -Less tweaking.. Besides above they are quite the same, smooth and fast graphics/interface/screen size/camera etc and usuall extras. The Desire is basically the Google Nexus one, but due to availability I can't include the Nexus in my choice. Due to the minimal differences between the desire and nexus, use desire as your vote if you would go for the nexus.
Wait for the new iPhone, the 3gs is a year whilst the desire is a few months. Also the new is 4.0 enables multi-tasking. Desire and incredible are too differant phones aren't they?
I need a new phone at the moment, so waiting a couple of months on new releases is not my plan, so stuck to current choices. The incredible is basically another phone, but I added it as a name also because minimal differences/same hardware give or take a little mem etc and due to the US members here not having access to the Desire.
Depends how much you give a shit about the app store. If you just want an awesome phone either will suffice, if you are a facebook/twitter whore and need to pay through the nose for the most basic/banal off apps, then get the iPhone. Although the Android store is no slouch either, the iPhone may have more apps, but the shit to awesome ratio is a lot lower. Also, the iPhone 4G with supposed HD video recording and all that shit will be out in probably 6-8 weeks.
I love my G1 (HTC Dream, Android), don't know anything about the Desire. But it looks like the 4G is going to be pretty damn nice, hardware-wise. And by hardware, I mean cameras, because that's all I really care about. Right after Keyboards. Multitasking rocks. If you really need a phone now, I'd say go with the HTC. If you can wait a little bit, then get the iPhone.
from what I hear Desire still has tiny int. memory where you can install apps unlike iPhone. I'd wait to see what the 4th gen iPhone would be like before make any decision...
I have the HTC Desire and I love it, although not had much experience with an iPhone so my opinion isn't balanced. At the minute with the desire you're limited to installing applications onto the ROM (149mb free I think you get), but the upcoming Android update will allow you to install apps to a micro SD card. But there's some good news, you can already do such a thing now if you root your phone (think jailbreaking with the iPhone).
Unorthodox/ I heard that allowing to install to a micro SD card was banned initially due to the security issue. Guess they must have worked that out if they are going to allow this feature. Also I heard soon-to-be-released Android phone will have much bigger int memory so at least you should have more memory to install apps~
I am also looking at the HTC Desire. <rant> I am not interested at Apple iPhone because of AT&T and AT&T blocked Apple from releasing the iPhone to Verizon... I hate AT&T due to dropped calls, static reception, and interference with almost every electronic device. I've been with Verizon for two years and have had only a very small amount, I believe 10, dropped calls and they were completely random, not during peak hours, when AT&T usually dropped me...</rant> I'm stuck between an HTC Desire or another regular phone. My bare-minimum requirement is a qwerty style keypad for texting because that's what I do with my phone 99% of the time. In fact, for this month I've used about 5 minutes of my 450-anytime minutes allowance. However, I currently pay $60 and it looks like I'll need to purchase a data plan to get to buy an HTC Desire, in which I'll then pay close to $100/month!! I've read reviews on the Desire. They say battery life is short, but thats the same with almost any smart phone, but they say it lasts longer if you turn off GPS and Wi-Fi.
If you want a good camera you should go with Sony Ericsson, best mobile cameras out there. 4G sounds sweet, tho released soon means released soon in the US and will probably take quite a while before it arrives here sadly. I am probably taking the HTC, which I have to wait for because they are sold out now.
Well the update will be free for the iPhone 3gs so in a couple of months it will enable multitasking and a bunch of new things.
I say hold off. Most people's criticism is of the AT&T network, and seeing as you're not in the US it's not going to make a blind bit of difference to you. Go with the Desire if you're an incessant fiddler and don't mind your phone being less user friendly for the privilege, and don't mind the slightly less forgiving battery life. Go with the iPhone if you don't mind being locked into what you can use on the phone, at the benefit of the more stable UI. Personally, after hearing many common people's poor experiences of Android-based phones, I would say stay away for the time being from Android unless you're of a geeky persuasion. It suffers from all the quirks of being a smartphone first and a phone second.
One thing nobody has mentioned yet, getting raped on the cost of the iPhone in addition to the 18-24 month contract. You can get an Android phone for next to nothing on some contracts.
It's not like that's such a huge problem since Android apps are generally small (most of them are only a couple of megs). I have an HTC Hero and like the phone in general, but I'm really pissed at HTC for pushing the Android 2.1 update back so many times (it's scheduled for June now), obviously so it wouldn't hurt sales of the Desire :banghead: Also, the Facebook app for Android sucks ass compared to the iPhone one.
A 3GS is a very good phone and the 4.0 update will make it even better. I really would wait a little longer for the iPhone G4 though. You'll still have to fuck around with iTunes, but from what we've seen of the hardware so far it'll be awesome. When the G4 is released the 3G will be discontinued and the 3GS will get a price cut anyway.
Iphone by far from what I seen is the better package. To get round the bitch of a contract look into buying one off ebay and go on a cheap data ccontract. Here in the UK my bro is on TMobile with his 3GS (before they got it). What He did was get it an O2 3GS off ebay and get a 02 sim prepay. Put 15 pounds on it then ask 02 to unlock. 1 week later it was unlocked then went to TMobile and got a cheap data sim. Im gutted as his download speeds are way faster then mine and cheaper over 18months then mine!
