    Hello people,

I want to buy a Sega Saturn Japan Model HST-3200, in mind condition with box, but there is a strange thing:

Only the upper half of the case have the FAN holes. Were there any models like that?

And what would you pay for his console HST-0004(small box, box and console serial identical) everything included (except manual) and in mind condition?

Or would you prefer a first model V-Saturn and if yes, why?

Thanks four your answers in advance.

    $30-40.

V-Saturn and Saturn are the same, no preference.

On the early model Saturns, the power supply was attached to the top of the case instead of the bottom like you would see normally. This is why there are ventilation holes on the top.

I think my Saturn has those vents, but I'll have to check later.

Model 1s look so much more aggressive and powerful... Maybe that's just me.

V-Saturns just have a different bios intro logo. Apart from that, what ave mentioned.

Thanks, four your answers, this was very helpful.
I have thought the only first model was with top and bottom, full FAN holes?

You say for only 30-40$ but I can't find for that price in near new condition and with box(with same serial). That device in the picture costs 119.99€ + 38€ shipping and I would pay that price for that condition. But if you would help me to find for better pricing I would be very happy :) Is there any secret japanese retro shops? :D I have a tenso account.

Let's not cite prices in Japan, just unfair. It gets our hopes up for deals that'll never happen.

You might just make it under $100 or so even with proxy fees... Boxed Saturns I've seen go for $30-40, so ave's price range is pretty good. Unless the prices have spiked I don't know.

I have never seen them on just the top... Early models have top+bottom holes. This is a HST-3200.

    Probably someone swapped the top.

Yes exactly the same what I thought too, someone must swapped the top cover. Another question: I think I need a JP21 RGB cable with JP21 to EUR SCART to use it on my PAL TV, right?

That looks like it actually might have a fan in there? Do any of the Saturn systems actually have a cooling fan?

At a local book off they have this exact same model with ventilation holes in places and marks for what looks like fan that should go there. But there is no fan. My guess they figured out it would run fine without the fan but the molds were already made before they could make that change so after the initial Japanese launch run they decided to remove it.

    No!

You can just use a regular EUR SCART RGB-cable - as they are easily available on European ebay-sites, getting a JPN one with adaptor would be redundant.

I have read about incompatibility if you use Japanese Saturn with EUR SCART RGB cables, because the pin-out of Japanese AV Out is different then the EUR Saturn AV Out.

I would only buy original RGB SCART, I can find both for a good price.

No, none of them do. I own a day of release Saturn and the only real noticeable difference that's easy to spot are the 2 LEDs for both the power and access lights. Oh, and the access and power font is different.

Were there HST-3200 models without FAN holes on the left side?

There are more strange thing with that unit. The label of the bottom case says HST-3200 but it comes from a HST-0004 box. I thought in HST-0004 boxes was only HST-3210 consoles? Console and box serials are matching.

    Here is the unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390821018741

I think the serial on the box was faked??

It looks like it's a frankin-console made from at least two different console.

Here is what it should look like:

Not as good nick but 'yamatoku-classic' are quite straight forward with the products. they don't even clean them :p

You can trust ave on this. The pin-out of the AV out on the Saturn is still the same, which is what matters. If you want to connect the Saturn to the SCART input of your European TV a EUR SCART cable will be just fine.
