Well, about 3 hours ago some dude broke into my garden stealing my sis's new bike (we bought it about a week ago) and a motorcycle helmet.
With the noise made by my dogs I got up and looked by the window and I saw it running with that stuff, and the worse of it, I knew the guy! It's a homeless guy that asks for money in the corner of my house when cars stop or when is people around (I never give him anything, if he wants money he must get a job). I was going to chase him when he saw me, but I locked the door before going to sleep and while I went to get the keys he was gone.
Anyway, the robbery wasn't what pissed me off the most. The first thing I did is call to my local police station (a block away from my house), they took half an hour to get here, they asked me about what happened and told me I had to go to the station to fill all papers and stuff. 5 minutes later I was there and after 15 minutes of questions (made probably by the most retarded cop in the world) he told me that my house was off that local station's limits and I had to go to another one 15 blocks away of my house! Like it wasn't enough, it was 2 am for that moment and my parents are on vacations and they took the car and the motorbike. When I arrived there I have to wait another 20 minutes until the cop appeared, even when I told him that this guy is every day, all afternoon there, he said it was gonna be really difficult to find him and they will do everything they can (he even told me that if I see this guy again I should take justice by my own!!). Then he went back to the computer and continued playing Arkanoid.

After all of this I have a question: Is the police in other countries so useless like it's here or they're effective somewhere? They have me really pissed off...

otherwise not so much, might aswell rename them "traffic enforcement officers" actually...

sucks about your robbery there, but your lucky he settled for the bike and the helmet and didnt break into your house or hurt anyone.

One guy (or several? I don't know.) broke into my storage in my apartment building a few years ago. Stole everything, hundreds of LP's, promo video games, my DC, my GC, my entire childhood NES collection, hundreds of other games. The police? They inspected the place and sent me a letter a few weeks later saying they've dropped the case.

if someone steals me shenmue, panzer dragoon saga, or any of my vinyls, i will try to hunt him as if my life goes on that.

police in spain is irregular, there are some good officers, but a big percentage seems taken out from GTA.

Sorry to hear that happened to you mate, people like this that don't work and steal others stuff really annoys me. They fail to understand people work their life away working real hard to get money to buy good expensive stuff.

Hope you get your stuff back.

Shit, that sucks . The police in this shitty ghetto town are just as useless.
You know I still I have a case running about death threats, and what has been done ? nothing at all. And my father and I lives in fear, thanks to the police has done nothing at all. Fucking armoured pigs ! if you motherfuckers, aka. Danish cops reads it, then what the fuck is the matter with you ? Have you been busy with nothing ?
Do you still think my father is paranoid when he said there were people watching him ? even though I know for a fact he isn´t paranoid ? after all that has happened ? Fuck you pigs ! ! !

My brother in the UK was a police officer but left. He says they are full of shit ! They know what's happening but will do nothing to fix it. It's the paper work you see. They're just lazy fuckers for the most part my brother said.

In Japan the police are fantastic when it comes to pissing you of for driving offences but give them something real to do and they seem to take forever. The other day in Osaka an Asian broke in to a woman's home, tied her up by the fridge then when on to steel money. There was a baby in the house, only 18 days old! The fucking twat killed it ! I want the bastard to live the rest of his days in pain and suffering but will they catch him? Probably not. Oh and you know what? All he got was 40'000 yen ! Not even enough to buy the cheapest PS3.

Gee, that sucks, z_killemall. Perhaps you should take justice in your own hands, if the police doesn't seem to care... round up a few friends and intimidate the guy into returning your goods. If I knew who broke into my house last year and stole three laptops and my PS2 he'd be in serious trouble... unfortunately I don't.

    ^what a logical assumption

It seems like 90% of the police force in most countries are like this. Not to divert the discussion at all, but I'm pretty sure this is why most cops are in support of the "war on drugs" over here. It gives them something to go after that's far less dangerous than chasing violent criminals or thieves.

Traffic violations are a favorite as well. They feel like big men (or women) when they can pull you over for going a few miles over the speed limit, all within the comfort of their squad car.

This is not to say all cops are lazy fuckjobs, just most of them.

Man if you know who he is, go chase him and make him know who you are.
I mean if someone I know robs me I go after him, no matter what. Police won't do anything, don't bother losing 3 hours going from station to station from queue to queue filling papers and answering stupid questions. I've been through that. It's not worth it if you know that son of a b****.

I know I'm not gonna recover anything, he must have sold everything this morning to buy some stuff really worse than crack. It's called "Pasta base" or "Paco", and for the ones that never heard about it here's a quick explanation. It's made from cocaine leftovers and sulfuric acid, kerosene, rat poison and glass powder (between others) to strenghten the effects, it's highly addictive (most of the addicts steal all the time to get more), really cheap (less than a dollar the dose), and can result in brain death in less than 6 months.
The big deal is that with all that brain damage, addicts can't think about the consequences of what are they doing (even when they aren't high) and if they can they would kill you if you try to stop them.
For other side, corruption in the police is so big that some times even the cops support drug sellers for miserable amounts of money (something really hard to understand because cops salaries are not bad at all).
BTW, traffic cops are annoying as hell here. They don't work for the police, the traffic department is managed by the city hall and they're paid for every fine they make, so you can imagine the results...

Do you know for a fact he stole to get drug money?

And what are cocaine "leftovers?" As I remember it pure cocaine is basically in rock form, although it's usually smuggled over here in those huge bricks. You can't really produce cocaine in the US.

I'm sure there's shit left over if you cook crack, but it's whatever the cocaine was cut with (e.g. Novocaine, baking soda, whatever) and it's not something you could really get high with.

If it was made with anything involving cocaine, I can't see it being cheap. Cocaine is fucking expensive; last time I paid for it it was $20 for a bag about the size of an M&M mini, and it was nasty stuff (very wet and not at all strong). A friend of mine paid $150 for an 8-ball, and that's with the whole "knowing connections" bit.

At any rate, it sucks that you had your stuff stolen, but if you have the slightest inkling that you may get into legal issues if you go after him, I'd say cut your losses. If you catch him on your property next time, don't let him leave and do whatever is necessary to keep him there. Then again, the cops may get pissed if you make them look lazy by doing their job for them...

    Use your best judgment.

Edit: I see you're in Uruguay, so that changes everything. For some reason I assumed you were in the US. I don't know anything about the drug trade over there, so take my post for what it's worth.

Instead of crack, I should have said, illicit substances so as not to get your panties all up in a bunch;-) .

But yeh, there's a good chance the guy was stealing it for money, probably for booze or crack or whatever cheap drug you can get in that country..

I mean, to make cocaine you need mainly two things: the pure substance and something to cut it with. That is the "pasta base", it has almost nothing of cocaine on it so it's really cheap, but they must use all kind of chemicals and junk to produce the drug effect. This kind of stuff goes from extremely crappy cocaine (in a really low percentage) to various kinds of poisons and stolen psychiatric medicines (the effect comes mainly from this, other stuff just makes it a lot stronger).

My friend you have it all wrong. It is not the job of the police to help you. The job of the police is to,

    A. Collect revenue for the state
    B. Abuse their authority
    C. Fuck up badly when performing A and B
    D. Be cleared of wrongdoing by their own and repeat

As long as you look at the police in those terms then you'll see that they are doing a bang up job.

Just wanted to make sure that you knew people stole things to make money or because they possibly wanted to use the item, not just to fence them for drugs. I wasn't sure if your thought processes encompassed other possibilities ;-)

For future reference, I'm not a female and don't wear panties. My boxers are working quite well, though, so thanks for caring.

At any rate it seems as though z_killemall has found a solution of sorts, so I'll bow out of this thread.
