Jamtex: Well, I don't consider myself an expert, but after years and years collecting brand new stuff there're small details which reveals when an item isn't new really. The position of the content into the box, the way that cables are tied up, the condition of the cellotape, inevitable wears on certain elements which need some kind of direct contact to be used (controllers for example), the texture of polyethylene bags when they have been manipulate... There're many aspects which help a lot. This is close to CSI . Obviously, if certain stuff has only been taken out of the box and put again (not moving it too much), it's difficult to tell, but if it has been used for time... Look at my personal consoles (not the ones of my BN collection). Many people tell me: "Wow! They look like new!". And I think "If you really knew...". For example these (the Dreamcast stills keep the plastic seal) are both used (and abused, LOL): The problem for me is not to know if it's new or not but the simple fact that on the Internet you pay always before getting the item. Once it arrives to you, although you've been scamed and even the seller ends accepting it, you decide not to send the item back just because you don't trust in the seller any longer. You even get reponsible for the package in the return :S . In cases like these you prefer to keep the item and try to re-sell on your way, at least, to recover a small part of the cost (You always lose money). I'm thinking about this case of my first Mark 3 (in this one the seller was sincere; never tryed to cheat): It's in such a good state which really looks like new. But small details reveals it isn't. Anyway, it's not a perfect "science", like I said before. But at least helps to let the seller know that you're not an idiot (although yeah, he cheated you).
Virtua, you have too much time to spare, in my opinion. I agree with both of you, Wheela and Negora, the fear to lose a thing and never see it again moves people to buy compulsively... fuck! it happens to me all the time!!! BTW that's not as bad as it seems. I love the feeling. Don't you? Salut!
Mundocombo: Well, that's what makes collecting so exciting I guess. It's only that my bank account doesn't think the same . Uf, the day I've to get into buying a house/apartment, I'm going to miss these days much :S .
Sure. I mean I went too far the other way lol, but you know what I mean. Certainly the majority of what is deemed 'rare' really isn't. Rare for me is 1 copy seen every few years, or less. New hardware, nice! I'm partial to a bit myself, but as you say it can be really tough to find, and to know its 100% new. Juste...I saved 3 of the Yoshi auctions (he had more)..prices were 180K, 150K and 120K. Nice symmetry.
Thanks wheelaa... I remember he had more than one, and he sold the box with the last copy. I tried to remember what the first one sold at, and thought it was 160,000 yen, but 180,000 yen is still good, much better than 498,000 at Super Potato. ^_^
What the...? OK; I give you chance... Bug Blaster is an unofficial release by GDG originally without spine card. I spoke about another official release.
