I'd do more work with the engine if the community would actually LET ME post the compilations I make.

Anywho here are some screenies from what'll probably be my last project with the Controversial fighting game engine.

Wow, Mugen's really progressed a lot since I last saw it. I don't think there were even combos... One things the same though, it's still so damn ugly. There's just something too cool about making your own fighter, I gotta try my hand at my own sometime.

Sonic vs. Popeye, that's something worth seeing. Actually, I've been thinking of doing something with Mugen for quite a while. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the learning curve of the program? Is it something I'm gonna have to spend the next six months studying or can one walk in, plug in thier sprites and hammer out a game in a decent amount of time?

Mugen was confusing at first, but its easy to figure out. You just have to put the character files in this char folder or wherever, and then you need to put the ID (the name or something) in this config file.

I uninstalled Mugen a long time ago though. I downloaded a super Big pack, and it was 99.9% Naruto and DBZ characters. I deleted around 700 MB (in a 800 MB character set file) of nothing but those guys alone. It was fun, but fighting games aren't my thing.

Also, the game crashed whenever I had 4 Dios fighting each other and they all used their time stop ability at the same time.

Learning to use it is easy BUT finding what you want is hard becuase the Community aren't the most agreeable people. and lord help you if you post your compliation on line they have spaz fits to have it taken down in a heartbeat.

Mugen is fun.....the people that make the sprites are uptight assholes.

Win Mugen does tend to crash alot too.

Mugen sucks. You could code a better fighting game in BASIC. There was a guy that was making something similar in DOS called SFR (Street Fighter Remake) which was similar to the concept Mugen is aiming at. Only it didn't crash or other gay shit, it just was DOS only and limited to 256 colors I believe.

I've always wondered.. how do they handle balance between characters in Mugen?

They don't.....I figured out how to weaken characters but it doesn't change that much.

Mugen makes SVC Chaos look balanced.

This is true I only do it to amuse my self and occupy all the time I have on my hands.

    LOL

Mugen is ridiculously unbalanced. Lets say you put....Evil Ryu or whatever in match vs some random guy from another series. One punch = Dead instantly. One more reason I uninstalled, too.

Also, this goes without saying, but the community sucked SHIT.

"Ok here is my Cloud Strife edit of Ryu BUT YOU CANT HAVE IT BECAUSE YOU ARENT ONE OF MY FRIENDS" or some stupid shit like that.

Several sites went down and shut down because of Warehouse download sites that "stole" their work. Some of them even said they were going to sue, but I doubt any action could be taken.

Not to mention Mugen was some sort of meeting grounds of all the nerds on the net with their various hobbies. For example, some Marvel Fanboy would throw a fit if Sephiroth could beat Thanos in a fight. So they make Thanos and Sephiroth high tier to the point of being able to insta kill everything other than each other. This happened with several other characters, ESPECIALLY DBZ CHARACTERS. An actual post I read "Goku's power level is over 9000 he could beat everyone in one punch" and well....you get the idea. No one wants to balance the game to be fun, they wanted to not make their fanboy favorite character seem "Weak".

As a joke, some guy made a character named "Omega Tom Hanks" who was unbeatable by everyone. Even though he was a joke character, everyone said "OMG SO CHEAP THIS CHAR IS GAY HE INSTA KILLED SEPHIROTH UNPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I think the main problem with Mugen was that the community was composed of 12-16 year olds.

Yep. Some even went as far as to delude themselves into thinking they'd be making sprites for Capcom one day.

yeah I had my games on file front they found out it caused a huge uproar I was "the warehousing incident" that alot of the mugen sites were bitching about.

So anyway once they found out I was plugging my games hosted on file front they threw a hissy fit and had them taken off.

I've been looking for a new host that won't listen to their shit ever since.

I think for a mugen game the ones I put together were pretty balenced. Some Melty Blood characters were insanely cheap once I got the game for real I found the creators were way way off in reproducing them.

Guilty Gear Chracters seem to be pretty spot on though.

Personally I'd rather just play the games on their own but hey sometimes you gotta know who can kick who's ass. Sol Badguy VS Genjuro (My 2 favorite fighting game characters ever) Sadly nobody has made an over powered Genjuro........Poor Genjuro gets no love Poor guy's mother was a whore gotta have some sympathy for him right?

you aren't. I love that video it's favorited on you tube.

Some of those sprites look designed by people who can't even tie their shoelaces together. If I was ruler of the universe then I would ban anyone under 18 from even looking at a computer even if it was turned off, I would also ban leet speak and give a death sentence to anyone who tries to use non letters to make up words.

Back on topic. I downloaded Mugen and to quote Yakumo, it's a sack of shit.

As far as I know, Megaupload, Rapidshare, and some Torrent sites (I don't really know how to make torrents though) have no problems with you putting stuff on them.

I've never got into trouble for anything with them, but all I did was put mass amounts of images or some PS1 music rips.

Well I don't care about downloading other people's characters, I'd be making my own (to tie into my webcomic.) I wouldn't even make them with so many crazy supercombo finishing moves and the like, maybe just one each, plus I'd slow it down so it played more like SFIII rather than more like Marvel vs. Capcom as it seems to be from all those youtube videos.

Actually, is that possible? Can one make a slower game like that, or is that aspect not really editable?

Wait a minute, aren't all these characters owned by other companies? So who are these people to tell you to do anything?
