I did the av mod first and foremost. It is a model 1 ntsc saturn. It had a sound issue so i was dissassembling and rewiring and i pull the solder pads from tp8 and tp3 from the motherboard. I attempted to repair multiple times, with either flickering screen or nothing. Also video interference in the audio. Now i was getting desperate and i was drilling the pad on tp8 (video) and after multiple light drillings, i went completely through. so now there is a hole through the motherboard at tp 8, if i try to fill with wire, i can get a little video but it flickers and is in no way right. this is using the stock av cable, not the new mod jacks. Can this be fixed? is there another place to pull video so i can fix av mod? i am at a loss and quite pissed off, i shoulda just delt with the weird sound lol, now i cant even use normal cable effectiviely. tips? Also money is VERY tight, the av jack were recyled from a dvd player, and i can find any saturn mobo at all or any consoles at a price i can afford right now :/
Why the hell would you drill the test point in the first place? Look for the CXA1645 chip which is the video chip and trace pin 20 to the 75ohm resistor followed by the 220uf cap and tap into the caps Negative leg (the one with white stripe) and pull it to the bottom of the AV connector Pin 8.
I had...a grand idea and then my drill got overzealous lol, i mean it didn't work as planned hence why i am here asking for solutions.. can i just pull from the cap directly to the composit jack, instead of trying to repair the dim connector? also having an issue finding it..
I've moved this thread to the modding forum, as that's the appropriate section. Note that the Sega Dev section is more for discussion on Sega consoles not specifically covered by the main Sega subforums e.g. Saturn. No big deal, but take a few minutes to acquaint yourself with the descriptions of the forums, so you can post in the best forum. ;-) If you've messed up a mod, post in the modding forum. Incidentally, if you find you want to add something to a post you've just made, use the edit button rather than double posting! ;-) Good luck with the Saturn!
SO I haven't had a chance to fiddle with it yet as i have not had the time. Do you know where i can pull stereo sound from it now? tp2, tp3 are not an option. the tp2 solder point has turned black and dissapeared, and tp3 is not far behind...
The SCSP is the sound chip aka the YMF292. The DAC is either the philips chip or the burr brown chip.
Ok i got video back pulling from the capacitor, as far as sound do i need to find another corresponding capacitor or just off a a couple of the legs on the chip?
Ok the video is not fixed, it is hit and miss. THe point off the cap works for a couple seconds, then it begins to flicker and then freaks out
DAMMIT! Ok it blew up, i found a jumped trace and was fixed the video for real this time, was moving around, dropped a screw driver and popper the power supply, sooo psu is dead, damn damn damn. So i guess ill just get another saturn somehow, if Anyone has one that i can put my laser in or just a console it would be appreciated, in the mean time ill troll around on ebay. Damn it, thanks for all the help though guys! I thought all hope was gone! I had a wonderful glimmer of repair! but now screw it lol
I don't understand what you were trying to accomplish in the first place. The Saturn already supports composhite, so why not just get a composhite cable?
You could have also just tapped into the underside of the AV socket which is sturdier than the test points, also what wattage was that soldering iron? you need some decent equipment even if it's cheap radioshack shit a 15watt iron is good for beginners as it won't make too much heat and lessens the chance of burning traces and test pads.
