I was under the impression that the xbox wasnt exactly a tremendous success. Although not as bad as the cube However with microsoft's budget, there is no way the xbox could have really failed. Maybe they should just repackage the DC in a new case, tack on some motion controls and start selling it for twice the price. It's a proven formula.
Oh lord. Try to keep it OT, even though it is a pipe dream. LAWL@ 2SEGA1CUP There's already a DC part 2. Called a Naomi 2. Go consolize one and imagine.
I saw on ebay once This thing that let you hook a dreamcast up to a Naomi cab. No idea if it was legit or not though.
The Naomi2 is like the PentiumPro: a higher-spec version of the stock unit with a price too high to be marketable at the same level, and when it became cheaper there were already more powerful options available. After all, even the GC is more powerful than Naomi2 (at least in poly/sec numbers). At the estimated time of launch for the DC2 (fall 2003) the best options were a G4 (not G3 like gekko) or the Xbox-rejected Athlon, which at the time was pretty cheap and kicked PIII's ass in pretty much any game. About the GPU, maybe a 9600 or 9800 since ATI was cheaper (and better) than nVidia at the time.
Assembler was just making a suggestion... not saying that it was the better option. Besides, arcade architecture is to console markets as the singularity is to modern day physics. Theories don't work. There's more to life than poly count.
Yeah but dont you remember the PS2 hype? It was all about how it could pull millions more polygons than the DC, even when most games looked like crap in comparison. Only recently the polygon fad of the late 90s ended and now gamers pay attention to other things, like RAM and GPU specs.
I recall the hype of just about every game system... and generally don't believe any of it until I see games in action. The 360 and PS3 can do a space shuttle launch, and the Wii can have all sorts of innovative games w/ 3D stick figures, but it means dick to me. I still think 2D at it's hight is more aesthetically pleasing, and more importantly, heaps more fun.
