Just had this in my mind for a while, what do you think of this? No rights, low wages, what do you think?

I think they get away with a lot for being illegal immigrants. But slavery and the choice to come into a country illegally are two very different things.

They voluntarily chose to illegally reside in a country and perform cheap labor. There's far more opportunities available for them to choose over that one, but most of them don't want to permanently leave their country.

I think that your statement makes a mockery of those who suffered by the hands of slavers.

The ones who get duped and shipped over in cargo bins to work in sweatshops or as prostitutes... Absolutely.

The ones who you see on TV protesting for their "perceived" entitlements... Fuck'em.

Yes, please carry this over to the political thread.

So that we can have a civilized conversation about it....

Yeah, it's fun when a country like America (U.S.A) is talking about illegal immigrants. A country literally built up by them in almost no time (in historical terms).

legally speaking, it depends on what constitutes "slavery".

keep in mind that if not for "slaves" , then and now, civilization wouldnt have automation at low cost. Technology thankfully has shifted this largely, along with human rights, but in reality profit is only made when you keep costs low, so it lives on in spirit although in a very different format.

it should be noted that slavery in its old format was aimed at simple, large scale, repetitive labour - it doesn't replace a skilled workforce that you need to pay properly for.

Yeah you should probably keep subjects like this confined to the unmoderated thread.

That being said, yes I can somewhat agree with the OP. I would compare them more with the "Indentured servants" of yore than actual slaves. Truth is, the only way we'll ever prevent them from coming to this country is to hold those who hire them accountable. I can't blame anyone for trying to find work, but I can blame people use use the cheap labor because it saves them money.

I'm only going to mention 2 contradictions:

1-Almost half of the US used to belong to Mexico, and it was taken away by force, which in other terms can be considered stealing.

2-Immigration laws in Mexico are much harder than in the US, so central american immigrants in that country have to endure much more than illegal mexicans in the US.

    There, thats all.
