Wow, your efforts are really appreciated mate. and welcome back! :)

anyway, wasn't bloodshot a doom-like for the genesis?
and i would like to scan some pictures showing bill gates and a prototype of the xbox next to him, or in-game metal gear solid beta screenshots to add to your collection, but my scanner's broken sadly. :(

Great topic Fabrizo. You probably had a lot of work to scan and upload all those stuff.

By the way Team Fortress 2 was never cancelled. The story is long and i'll try to explain it quickly. After Valve released Half-Life, they announced that they hired the team that made Team Fortress for Quake, and released screens and videos of TF2. Firstly they released TFC.

According to message boards and people that worked with Valve, the game switched engines a couple of times, when Valve decided to make their own engine (that ended up being HL2 Source engine). Valve still promisses TF2. So put it side by side with Duke Nukem Forever. We know it exists, but no idea when it will go public.

Rev Limit is a shame really. I remember when i saw those screenshots of a Brazilian Magazine, and was like WOW.

Oh and i think IS Internal Section was released in Japan.

    Again thanks for the topic.

I have the Gamepro issue with those RE1.5 scans. Good stuff.

  4. Yeah, IS internal section did get a Japanese release - either that or I've got a super-rare production mockup with pressed prototype disc. :smt043

By the way, if you are a fan of Rez, Vib Ribbon, or any other games of that sort that use music as a gameplay element, you'll love IS.

I wouldn't doubt it, seeing as I used to know someone who had a pressed copy that he got a few days before the official release (he was very secretive about how he got it though).

I suppose you could say that (I could probably get a rough figure on how long it all took, but I don't even really want to know myself, although it was probably about 20-30 hours worth what with finding/scanning/re-scanning/cropping/resizing/re-formating/uploading(one image at a time)/sorting/and linking all the images).

I suppose that article falls firmly under the beta-game section then instead of the unreleased one :)

I suppose its a good thing it came out, except that now I wana track down a copy (and probably pay way too much for it I have a feeling).

Nope, its from a mockup video shown to the press back then, which was eventualy released as one of the videos viewable in the 'Sonic Jam' video gallery. As for Sonic XTreme, I have 'The Red Shoe Diaries' part 3 which I could scan if you want (I also have part 1, but im not sure where I put it).

I also have some long multi-page articles on the M2 if you guys are interested.

Well officialy speaking it wasn't released, and in fact was cancelled almost the exact same day it was due for release. Because of how late it was canned though, a few of the 'shady' game stores managed to sell some copies from early shipments (although it works differently as to how those types of shops get games early). Because of this (and im sure some other factors, four versions eventualy ended up being ripped and put on the net. If only the same happened with more complete-but-unreleased games...

I can tell Internal Section (IS) was released. I have a bootleg of it, but it's a very good copy of the japanese box-art. No way it could have gotten to mexican or taiwanese bootleggers with box art and everything if it wasn't out for sale. The disc is, however, not serigraphed or properly printed on like more high quality bootlegs, so I'm almost sure it's a mexican copy.
Which validates the "released" theory even more - I bought this at a comic convention before downloading ISOs was widely common. I can also tell you I only saw it ONCE (the time I bought it) and never again - so it's very rare for sure.

I just looked at a few French Xbox magazines (volume 1, 2 & 3) and found:

Early footage of the Knights of The Old Republic (Xbox)
    Orchid
    Blitz (released?)
    Zidane Football Generation (released?)
    Project Ego (Fable)
    Strident The Shadow Front (released?)
    Core
    The Y Project
    Dragonkind (released?)
    Loose Canon (released?)
    New Legend (released?)
    Times of Trouble (released?)
    Dominion (released?)
    Shining Lore (released?)
    Dreadnoughts (released?)
    Duality (released?)
    Stalingrad (released?)
Early Yager footage (EU only release)

Some titles might have been released, but I haven't heard about most of these games before.

I have all Official PlayStation Magazines so I am sure I'll find loads of things there too. Once I am done looking, I'll scan everything in to share. :)

Yeah, I am planning on scanning 'em all (perhaps even a few this week), plus a ton more (including a bunch of old articles about pre/post-launch PlayStation 2 titles, I got about 8 year's worth of PlayStation magazines). :)

Still have to look into the rest of my magazine 'collection'.

    Excellent job on the scanning!!

You asked the differences between some beta games and the final versions. Well, for Perfect Dark. The screen shots there, well Joanna doesn't carry a Magsec 4, only in Area 51 level did you have access to the Magsec 4. There's only one picture of her carrying the Falcon which is the staple weapon for her. Also, if you look closely to the big picture where she's on the rooftop, the green lines, well those aren't in the final version. Also, she never carries her gun facing up to the sky in the final version.

Someone mentioned whatever happened to Conker64. Well, that game was completely redone. Instead of being a kiddie platform game, like DK64, and Banjo Kazooie Rare decided to make Conker more adult oriented. The game ended up being very different, actually sold a good amount of copies, and really pushed the power of the N64 without the help of the N64 Expansion pack. I owned it and I enjoyed it. I'm pretty sure thought that there might be a beta copy of the old Conker 64 lying around somewhere in Rare's offices or hard drives.

  17. RE: 7 Mansions
The interesting thing about this game is that it got a fully translated Russian release not by Sega or Koei or anything, but by the black market which is is really advanced over there. They called it "Resident Evil: 7 Mansions" for the usual pirate reasons. It's not the only Dreamcast game released in Russian actually, though I think it's the only Japanese-only one. I think they did Half Life, too, though. I'd love to get a couple of these games to see what the quality of the translation is, not that I speak Russian, but I'd just like to see how fully tramslated they really are. Hell, if the Russian mafia was involved, they might have been able to get ahold of the original source code or something.

I assume there's also even more Russian translated of Playstation and PS2 games since those are more successful systems, but the Dreamcast ones are the only ones I know about.

    RE: IS Internal Section
No doubt about Internal Section's release, it shows up on eBay occasianally. I'd love to pick up a copy someday along with a similar abstract shooting game (midnite hi-shooting, baby) called Lattice.

    Sure, go ahead :)

You can post the N64 ones too if you'd like (Seeing as you run 64dd.net as well I believe).

Glad to know it was worth scanning that article then :)

I scanned a great deal more then I posted sense I didn't have a net connection at the time, and thus couldn't check and see if some of the games I wasn't familiar with had been released or not. Once I got back I went over all of them, and it turned out that I had scanned alot of rare-but-released game articles and pictures.

I don't know very much about the russian black market myself, but I do know that they did release a translated copy of the leaked Half-Life 2 E3 demo a while back. I wonder how hard it would be to get a copy of that and the 7 Mansions hacks these days...

Maybe it's about time I do another magazine scan-a-thon. I just need to stop being lazy and install my scanner on the comp im using now :p
