Ive been accepted to SUNY Albany without even finishing my application! Whohoo. Its where I wanted to go too so im so excited. They are giving me money, and special priviledges as a honors student. That is all Andrew
If you don't know what you want to study, then don't lock yourself in too quickly. Make sure to take your core/required/broadening (whatever the hell they call the crap that no one wants to take but has to) early and try to fit in a few courses from majors that interest you. Be careful though, I don't know about where you are going, but some majors have very specific semester requirements in order to do all the prerequisites in four/five years. I started initially in architecture, but I ended up with a bachelors, and now a masters degree in computer science. If you have any questions about either of those majors or engineering, let me know. Are you planning on just getting a BA/BS or are you looking to go all the way for a Masters/Doctorate?
Im still unsure for my future. The reason why I like this school is the broad range of classes offered, allowing me to take different things along with the core classes. Ive really been trying to narrow it down in the past few months, so we'll see
'Grats, dude! Have fun, and remember, go to class. That sounds very anti-fun, but believe me, showing up is good. If the class sucks, you can just sleep in class (I did this a lot). Get your hard classes (like higher level math, if you choose a math intensive major) done early so you're not hit with them at the end. No, I don't speak from experience (I followed my own advice), but I've seen the result. Nothing sucks more than trying to graduate and biting your nails over whether you'll get that C for Commencement.
Biggest words of advice: Don't take the earliest classes unless you are a die-hard morning person. You may think that it makes sense to get your classes over with early, but damned if you will be awake during them.
Congratulations borman. And a harty dido on the no early classes thing, they all seem to be calculus anyway (at least thats how it was at my university). Calc was the only 8am class I ever took, and I am very thankful of that... Oh, and be certain to mix in the occasional "just for fun class".
I had a 7am "Developing Countries" geography class with under a dozen people in it. Not fun at all...
Congrats dude. Just concentrate on taking your general courses like Freshman Comp1, College Algebra, etc. Get those out of the way before you decide on a major. I can't wait till I go back this August and begin on Architectural Studies.
Well, im taking College Computers 101 and 102 right now, so thats like 6 credits total or some shit, whatever, its cheap lol. Dunno what the actual course name is though @ the college
Just be sure to take enough classes each semester to finish in a reasonable amount of time, but not so many that it ruins you. I once took all of these in one semester during my undergraduate: (100 level) Intro to Problem Solving (100) Calculus II (201) Principles of Economics (300) Business Law II (400) Business & Government (400) Business Ethics (400) Employment Law 22 credits in one semester really has ruined me since anything less than that feels boring now...
Take 4 classes each semester, at the most. No more. The less you take, you are considered a part time student and they lower your financial aid, etc.
