I was debating making this seperate from the thread about Retrocade Fantasia but why not it was suggested I make a suggestion thread anyway. SO future episodes good, bad WTF I'll play ALMOST anything (sorry I can't do the PD rape games You Tube won't let me plus the sprite work sucks) All I have lined up for episode 5 is an episode spanning run through of Guwange (while BSing that's actually a game based on Totoro) and HCK requested Final Fight Revenge so I'm doing that as well.
My request is Your opinions/gameplay of No Mercy for N64, compare and contrast this with WCW/NWO Revenge for N64 (You'll have a lot of fun with these two, two great games IMO)
Expect lots of Jokes at Johnny Ace's Expense when I play All Japan pro Wrestling Featuing Virtua (IE 2 player game Player 2 is Johnny Ace and I'll just beat the shit out of him as Misawa)
Heres another request, the entire time do a Johhny Ace impression (Simple enough, just try to squeeze one out)
Only good thing he's done in 25 years is invent the Ace Crusher, and even then it was DDP who made it popular and made it look good.
I might do the Wrestling Special next month since I still need ESPGALUDA II and Otomedeius for 360 before I can do the 360 shooting special
Why not do a game that you're exceptional at? There are plenty of casual reviews of games that deserve more... Guwange is a prime example. You'll probably not introduce anyone to the game unless you really understand it. There's also plenty of literature (in English) available to tell you what the game is based on. https://www.gamengai.com/cmnt_inf.php?id=1301&type=translation https://www.gamengai.com/cmnt_inf.php?id=1967&type=translation
Yeah that's true but I realized with my show I'm kind of just preaching to the chior. Guwange is such a dark game anyway I mean look how fucked up the game gets and once I played it in english after beating it I was sitting there staring at my TV saying WOW that's fucked up. Then the other day I was watching Totoro with my dad who is a huge Miyazaki fan and I came up with the idea to come up with some complete bullshit story about how Ghibli commissioned Cave to do a game based on Totoro but the result was so messed up it turned Miyazaki off games forever. You know it's bullshit I know it's bullshit....I just wonder how many other people will realize it's bullshit and my story goes in far more detail than that like which boss in guwange is who in the movie obviously this all came from the Cat Spider and Catbus reminding me of each other. And for some reason some of the Music in Totoro reminded me of some of the music in Guwange. I could come up with something even more fucked up than the supposed Totoro backstory and Guwnage's already fucked up story. Beyond that I've been wanting to cover Streets of Rage Remake but not sure if this is the episode to do it.
Not many if they're being introduced to the game by your video. Such things just never really entertained me, which is probably why I'm biased about it. And, there's about a million shooter video reviews of someone bitching about "it's too hard" or "you can continue to the end" etc. Fact is, Guwange and it's $1000 cardboard box have a special place in my heart... I think it deserves nothing but the utmost.
I LOL'd HARD at this So much for my idea. My Bullshit story has some truth behind it. Maybe Mihishisama and Nausica aren't too far fetched either. I'll think of something interesting to do with Guwange You at least know there's a catbus joke in there somewhere I'd love to just do a Cave special but there are several games I'm missing and/or don't have access to
GP has a great point, find something that you're amazing at and do a full 'Superplay', critiquing it at the same time, pointing out various areas where the developers could have made improvements etc and highlighting what is is that makes the game so great to play that you decided to master it. Granted it's going to be a few shows down the line but I think it would be worth the wait. In the meantime I make a request for Gekisha Boy on either the PC Engine or PSX. If you play the PCE version, there's a fully translated ROM floating around in case you're not familiar with the game
Play SUPER BIKURIMAN for the Super Famicom. That is one shit 1 on 1 fighter by interbec / bec. In fact everything they ever made is shit. Have you seen their PlayStation port of Darius Gaiden  Yakumo
The cat-spider actually makes it into Otogi Matsuri, as well as some other generic hat tips. Inoue has said a few times he draws what he knows. Something like Progear was a challenge for him as it's all fantasy. There are parts of Japan that still resemble Guwange, and he himself is from the country side, so it's not hard for him to imagine. But, yes, I think we find that just about every game/manga/anime design is influenced by another in some way, although sometimes miniscule. The Guwange characters, while not designed by Inoue, were influenced by prominent figures. Ushiwakamaru for Gensuke, Evangelion for Shishin, and Rena Tanaka for Kosame. In the interview about ESPRade, he says Yusuke was influneced by Slam Dunk. These types of things go on and on, and I personally find more interesting than the games themselves sometimes. Seems that there was way more love put into these characters than the generic manginas found in games today. Why not do research (there's probably more Guwange information in those two interviews than anywhere on the interwebs) and tell people something they don't know, and can't get from simply playing the game. My site is pretty niche to say the least, so doesn't get a lot of traffic. But, the information is there to use.
Retrocade Fantasia isn't exactly a show of which you expect to get a heaping of information on a bunch of games, Though every now and then I do show I know a thing or two about what it is I'm playing. It's also at times a loose Parody of Retrocore....speaking of which..... and I'll play it doing my bad impression of you the whole time. Actually an episode is in the works where I'll do a bad impression of you the entire episode. By then it might be passable. The Wangan Midnight soundtrack is on stand by By the way are you aware of this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC4mDsQz93U Stumbled on it while Looking for a Super Bikuriman reference point Your ass just got a mention in Episode 5's End Credits There's alot of stuff on your site I can use The Guwange Run through should be alot of fun
Right... but, was just suggesting something to make you stick out and appeal to the hardcore as well as the casual, if for nothing more than to separate yourself from LOTS of other reviews/videos out there. God knows there is tons of "tip of the iceberg" coverage out there. Also, Guwange is one of those games that deserves it! If you dig even deeper, you'll see my coverage (but no video or pictures) of the one of the arrange modes (I forgot what they officially called it) which was originally a one off PCB tweak for a Cave Matsuri. That one I actually played... but I've not played the 360 version yet. Cool, I've been doing squats...
Well I said that more to give a rough mission statement of what it is I'm trying to do with the show but you're right and there's alot more I can do to seperate my self form the throngs of other review shows. Either way you slice it A run through of Guwange is probably going to be the most detailed thing I've done. And I'm not even sure which version I'm going to do yet I'm leaning towards the 360 version but since I have Cheats enabled in MAME I could probably dig up all kinds of crazy shit in the game. I was going to do Episode 5 next week but there are some unforseen circumstances that may push it back a week or two so that gives me plenty of time to become an expert in the field of all things Guwange and you know it's funny since I decided to play I've done everything BUT play through it again and I'm dying to put my new stick through the paces and see what this MOFO can do.
