I am only showing the Hard Offs but I also visited quite a few other types of recycle stores.
The farthest west I've driven was Kyoto. The farthest east was Aomori. All surface streets. No highways.
I just pack up the van with cheap konbini snacks, download a ton of podcasts, then hit the road.

Some of them look the same but all pictures are a unique store.

This is the newest store (Takaoka city, Toyama Pref). It just opened in November. I had to check it out.

I don't want to know how much I've spent.

If the can gets too full I got to pack em up and ship em home. Perhaps 10 to 15 stores worth of hauls can fit in the van at a time.

I took video inside of every store I visited and will eventually get around to posting those on YouTube.

Yep. I wanted a Toyota Hiace, but since I don't live in Japan a kei is easier to ask friends to keep it on their property for months at a time, and shaken is much cheaper, too. :p

...and the gas mileage is endless!

    Oh did you now? :p

Keicars can't go on highways anyway, can they? I passed my driving test here very recently but have a horrendous memory.

Regardless, good job! It's crazy how many you managed to visit in only one year. I think I've only visited maybe a dozen different Hard Off and Book Off stores, and I've lived in Tokyo for the past 3 years!

I can't remember any specific restrictions - I just checked on the shuto expressway site, and they certainly seem to be allowed there:

    http://www.shutoko.jp/fee/fee-info/pay_cash/

    車種区分 料金額
    軽・二輪
    1,070円
    普通車 1,300円
    中型車 1,380円
    大型車 2,040円
    特大車 2,600円

    Same toll rate as motorcycles

Yes, keis are allowed on highways. They even get a discounted rate.

I would say Tohoku has a good selection. A lot of rarities though seem to all be concentrated in Shiga prefecture.

    Negative.

Haha, for real... I feel like I recognize several but could just as equally be imagining it.

The Hard Off close to where I stay in Kumamoto only has a basket full of F1 and baseball games for cheap. Any good games are Ebay prices. :(
