I'm getting stuck at "init mmc..." when trying to use my everdrive.. It's a Sandisk Ultra 8GB. Japanese mega drive model 1, sega cd model 1 american, no 32x.. It eventually gets an error: 2..
Ok so my 2GB SD card works.. But no games load, just a black screen.. Come on! From the goodgen set 3... As reccomended.. I've tried MD games, and SMS games, nothing..
Tried upgrading OS for obvious SDHC support, used the 2GB SD card for this.. Failed, error 2 on verify.. After a nearly 1 month wait and the product don't even work. Ok so now the menu won't boot up.. Reserve OS with A+B+C worked, tried to flash again from a freshly formatted SD card, said Update OK.. Then it froze, now it won't load the reserve OS.. Sadly, this was for a review. I want a replacement, and do not want to go through Tototek again.. They were TERRIBLE to deal with. EDIT: Nice, the PCB is stuck in my megadrive, it won't come out.. Dude, this product is of terrible quality, or I got a serious lemon here.. I have a feeling it's going to break my cart slot if I try to force it out.. It felt dificult going in, but I figured it was because it was just 3rd party.. It's definitely in there right, but it's rubbing the sides (both sides) of the cart slot. EDIT2: Ok got it out. Tried it in my RetroGen, but my god, the repair menu comes up on that! Why would it come up on that, but not real Megadrive hardware? I'm pulling out my American model 1.. This is weird stuff. I even tried removing the Sega CD. EDIT3: Unmodified American hardware won't load it either. So why does the Retrogen? What is different there? The retrogen isn't even real hardware, it's an emulating device.. EDIT4: Ok, I may be talking alot, but considering I waited almost a month for this, I'm disapointed by the fact that I'll likely need to wait another couple months before I can even begin not only using it, but reviewing it.. Needless to say, this encounter will be in the review. EDIT5: I hope I get some kind of response real soon, before I just give up and go to Paypal for a dispute. Tototek isn't even operational right now till February, of which my 30 days for a Paypal dispute ends.
Ok. I've had some time to calm down. I want you guys to know I'm not upset at Krikzz, or anyone else. I'm upset at the whole process I had to go through with Tototek to receive the item, late shipping and then a defective item, but then he's on another vacation. That's what got me upset. As of right now, I put in a Paypal dispute. I want that money back at this point. I spent 90 dollars for an item that didn't work. If I order again, it will be with Stone Age Gamer, as he clearly has much more people skills, and actually gets involves with the community. That's much better than Tototek is doing right now. (And as for vacations, I had to work on Christmas day, and all through the holidays, and I don't even have a business of my own to run.)
Inx64 if you are in U.S. just send board to us. We will send replacement to you and send defective board back to Igor later. That way you don't have to send back to Tototek and wait. Only thing I can't do is refund you for the shipping costs to ship it to us, I am just trying to offer you a quicker solution. First Class for this item shouldn't be much though, just make sure you insure it.
I actually got in touch with Tototek via Paypal, he'll refund the charges immediately upon a picture proof of the shipping label, in which case I'll ship it out this Monday. Thanks anyway, but when I get that money back from him, I'll be ordering from your site if it's in stock.; And yea, I'm in the US, I'm in Orlando actually.
maybe, yours cart even was not defective, "genny3 mode" option usually may fix problems like yours, but may be really some problem with cart. but now, when you even can't load reserve os, you definitely should replace your cart
Ok, I got my money back and the package back to Tototek. Stone Age Gamer, please let me know when you have them back in stock, I'd like to order yours immediately.. I just need this one: http://stoneagegamer.com/everdrive_deluxe.aspx Up to date firmware and OS would be great too, that way I don't need to go through that again.
E-mail us at support{at}stoneagegamer{dot}. We actually have ton of EverDrive-MD boards in stock, but we are waiting on more Deluxe labels to arrive, should be here in a week. We had to switch to a new company to do our labels. We do have a couple of current labels left if you need it quickly.
Email sent, thanks. I would like to receive it quickly, as it's 20 days since my original purchase with the other distributor and I still want an Everdrive. Krikzz, if Tototek gives you the defective one I sent back to Tototek, do let me know what went wrong with that board, I'm interested in finding out.
Can't wait. Though, the excitement is starting to die down now. I just hope it arrives soon. I've gone through a lot to get this thing.
Ok something is wrong here. The one from stone age gamer won't start a game on my console either.. It shows the menu, detects the ROM type, flashes it, then black screen. I tried using the included SD card also, same thing. I even made sure that hard reset is OFF and genny 3 mode is on. Still, just goes black. What am I missing? EDIT: Those were SMS games I was trying.. I just tried a Japanese MD ROM and it played it. And just now tried an American MD version of Earthworm Jim, and it plays it too. So, it seems SMS mode is not working. And I am not using a 32X, its directly in the cartridge slot. EDIT2: I just tried an American Genesis model 1, and SMS games work. WTF? Is my japanese mega drives SMS mode not working or something? It is not modified. And the irony, the model 1 SMS mode is working on, IS modified.
may defective system. sms mode should work everywhere except nomad and genesis3. may be most late model2 also don't have sms mode, but i not sure
Well this ones a model 1. I'm going to have to check with a powerbase converter, but I swear it played 8-bit games. Either way, this one is definitely working compared to the last one, the last one wouldn't play ANY game at all, no matter if SMS or MD mode.
Sorry to butt in on this, but I wanted to clarify something to everyone reading this thread: Please bear in mind that KRIKzz supplies the Everdrives to sellers board-only, and as such the cart getting jammed is likely due to defective cartridge shells by the supplier (in this case, Tototek), rather than being the fault of Everdrives in general. If you're having problems, try a different supplier. This has been a public service announcement by The Mooseblaster Blast Processing Corporation. EDIT: Replaced the word 'packaging' with 'cartridge shells' as that's what I meant. Also clarified a few things that people got confused about.
usually suppliers is not guilty, when i got broken carts from customers, i trying detect the problem, and usually it is defective IC, or soldering defect. sometimes such carts may pass QA tests, but there is not more than 1% of such carts. physical damage is more rare case, and almost always it is user fault. some samples of vandalism below. torn off IC is a pretty common thing by the way, for md users who use cart without shell SEGA: SNES:
Well to be honest, the flash chip on a model 1, CAN get hung up on the cartridge door. It gets in the right spot to do it. Not the case here cause I get the cartridge shells with them anyway.. PS, I borrowed a power base converter, and that DID play SMS games on the japanese MD, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware problem..
