Wow, I found this video in TechEBlog today, it's a TV show introducing the Internet. I think I never realized how crappy it was at the time, all sites looked like Wikipedia, but a lot crappier

BTW, I saw the show logo somewhere else:

Technically ASSEMbler's logo is similar to digital's, digital aka DEC was founded in 1957 and was one of the most important players in computer history.

That's DEC's old logo (Digital Electronics Corp.), from before Compaq swallowed them up. My first job involved tinkering on a PDP-11 & a VAX, both DEC machines. Ah, the good old days, when the outside world was a 300 bits/sec modem away...

If you want a laugh, look at what now household, dynamic sites looked like in their first iteration. Amazon.com was a freakin' joke. I think it employed some cheesy HTML form and mailed the sales people what you wanted.

I wasn't in college at the time. As such, I was on FIDOnet (and other stupid nets) via a 2400 baud modem. "Email" (which wasn't POP) took days to get.

My first times on the web were on 1992-1993 and I was too young to remember well, but I remember having a 3600 baud fax modem, which was more destinated to work like a fax that anything else. Then in '95 I got a PC with a 14.4k modem and I really started using internet then...

i remember when i went online the first time in my apprenticeship around 1994~95. at that time, the net was cleaner than the white sheets in my granmas wardrobe.
if i remember well, one of the first site i accessed to, was the japanese capcom homepage and grabed down any available pictures on the whole page. that was real exciting fun!!

Wow...This reminded me of my "Microsoft Internet Starter Kit" that I found complete, and sealed at a local Salvation Army...

I don't remember when exactly I got introduced to the internet. I think the first website I ever went to was "Spawn.com" or something like that, for Spawn related stuff, maybe in 94 or 95.

I didn't really use the net that much until I was playing Wild Arms, got stuck, and was using "Excite" (some shitty search engine) to find help for this one puzzle, and got introduced to Gamefaqs for the first time. I didn't do much else on the Internet until around 2002 or 2003, when I joined some Message board to ask some guy a question about something he said about Arc the Lad 2. Sometime in 2001-2002, I found out about Roms and Emulation, however, but thats about all I did. From 2002 to 2004 I posted on some crappy forums, played lots of ROMs (I hard a really big collection of NEO GEO roms at one point), and I had Metal Slug 5 beat at least 6 or 12 months before it even came out. Around 2004 I joined here, and am still here.

I was kind of a late starter to the Internet.

EDIT: Oh, I just remembered what I also used to do around 1999 and etc. Lunar SSSC faqs, and looking into every tidbit of info on Lunar 2 EBC, until it came out in Christmas 2000. To be honest, I don't think I even had Wild Arms beat at the time.

I first used the internet in about 1995, Prodigy internet on Windows 3.1 :)

Downloaded this FAQ about power rangers. Was about 50 or so pages.

Then in 1996 I started using it and I found out there were other people besides me that collected retro games. :O I thought I was alone! Hurray!

...it's been a downward spiral since.

Young people these days with no idea of history!

This site has been around since 1994 as a Bulletin Board on a 14.4 modem.

The first time I ever saw the internet was at a friends house around the '95 mark, whilst using it an error occured in the browser and displayed the 'illegal operation' banner. My friends dad panicked and ripped the power socket out of the wall!! XD

I first started using the internet at home around 1996-1997 and I would wait hours just to look at some 'hi-res' pics of Final Fantasy VII or Star Wars material.

I remember loading the star wars official website and being amazed by the links which played R2D2 sounds when you clicked them.

My biggest 56k event was when I downloaded a copy of GTA3 from a w*r*z site, it took 7 days and worked perfectly.

i rarely used the 'net back in 1995-6. My first true contact with it was in 1997, and the first website i visited was www.nintendo.com i think.
