Ipad 2 will be on sale 1am PST online and on Friday at 5pm at US retailers. I'm on the fence this time as I don't have the Ipad 1 but have an HTC hd 2 phone with 4:3 inch screen which has been big enough to keep me away from tablets. Also have a powerbook which runs Leopard and streaming video fine so not like I need a new computer right now. Really tempted to impulse buy it but may not since NGP is coming soon and will need the cash. Anyone else getting it or totally against it?
I'm in need of a new machine - was actually just pricing up parts but decided against it. The original iPad was tempting, this is too, but it is not only insufficient for all of my needs but my wallet says no so If it would run nullDC and work with my wired Xbox 360 pad now that would be another issue Since my PC blew up playing Warcraft though I'll keep chugging along with my dual core 2Ghz laptop with an 8600M GT... I can't even resell this for anything decent towards a new machine as 13 keys and 1 usb port are sorta broken EDIT: for alecjahn - Acer 5920G
Just replace the keyboard yourself. Very easy & cheap to boot! My views towards the iPad are the same towards the rest of the iFamily. There good but too expensive for me. It also seems like there contradicting the pledge they made with there 1984 related (and dated!) advert as the cult like following they have is quite scary how they will basically pay the exact same for something a little more powerful and lighter/thinner a few months later.
It's just an iPad one with stuff it should have had in the first place. You'd still be better off buying a good laptop. And whether you like or hate flash it's still a key bit of software used on the net and like before iPad2 won't support it. Yakumo
I'm sorry, excuse me while I  What model of laptop do you have? Sounds similar to my Dell Vostro I got a couple years ago. That 8600GT isn't a powerhouse (never was, of course), but it's a champ for some random gaming on the go.
Quoted for truth! I remember when the first iPad was highly rumored last year there was images of prototypes flying around WITH front cameras already. Which goes to prove that it was meant to be there for the first time round. The new iPad 2 would be quite good if it was a higher screen resolution.....Having it the same as the iPad 1 was a huge mistake.
A post on a mac forum states there are 200 people in line at my local store and that was an hour ago (goes on sale in an hour)!. Called local best buy, lines there too. So much for walking in and impulse buying, probably a good thing as the 3DS is out this week also and of course NGP soon.
I'll just wait for the iPad 3 in 6 months. Which assuredly won't have an SD card slot still for the same asinine reasoning. Which will cause me to wait for the iPad 4.
Amen... For such an "innovative" company they are either clueless to the oblivious or just blatantly greedy. Guess which one I think it is? I also find ironic how people always bitched about how Microsoft controlled everything and yet many of those same people happily line up to suck Apple's cock when they are basically doing the same thing.
They are greedy. Take the iPhone 4 over the 3Gs. Everything on the iPhone 4 could have been featured on the 3Gs. My sharp phone from 2008 had two cameras on it. One for pictures and one for video calls. My Sharp phone from 2007 had all stuff like a compass and basic navigation. The thing is, they know that Apple fan boys will rush out and buy the next bit of kit no matter what it is. I know two such idiots who just bought a 3Gs then a few weeks later got the iPhone4 and they also both own iPads and Apple note books. Both will buy the iPad 2 as well. Why? they don't need it.
I'd actually fancy buying one. It's so convenient for reading comics and watching videos in bed, not to mention browsing the internet. A friend of mine has one and he reads all his comics on it and I have to admit, it's almost as good as real paper. But that's not worth 500$ to me. I always try to imagine how many great collectibles I could buy for this kind of money instead and that's where it ends: no iPad for me!
This. Given how much noise Apple and their consumers made over the years about being locked out of the market, how Microsoft were ruining them with their proprietary standards etc it's ironic they're now easily the worst for proprietary standards and locked-out hardware. Still, what do I know. No multitasking, no Flash, closed app store - sold 15 million units in 9 months.
When presented with that they usually try to claim that the iPhone is the #1 phone that brought smartphones to the public (usually with some if statement that excludes Blackberry's and Palm devices. And as if the public even wants a smartphone if it didn't have an Apple logo on it. They'd likely buy any piece of shit phone with an Apple logo on it) then claim that "Android is fragmented" completely ignoring the fact that the Windows market is fragmented in a similar fashion (albeit without as much meddling from the OEM as most phones). And they usually don't give a damn about any of the complaints we do as the typical Apple consumer doesn't do much beyond word processing, Facebook and maybe a few games. They couldn't care less about vendor lock in unless it means they can no longer use Facebook on their Mac. But if you can't access Flash its OK because Jobs said Flash is so last generation.
I might well pick up an iPad as I only browse the net and send emails when at home. I would like to do this without lugging my work laptop home, and I don't have a desk here and I dont find using a laptop so comfy on the sofa.
The android tablets are better. More open and better technology now. The only issue is they are a bit thicker. In my opinion, 3 months will see better tablets.
Have an iPad 2 on its way to me now - collegue in vegas (the lucky SOB) and will bring it back with him. Looking forward to having something I can use around the (MANY) airports I visit quickly and easily... My first non ipod apple product - we will see!!!
True, but is technology better than user experience? The whole "sale" of the iPad isnt that it has 10 USB ports and SD slots, but that it has the largest app store and a guaranteed and familiar user experience.
Last Monday went to Best Buy to check out the Xoom tablet with android honeycomb. Its very nice but way too heavy. Also the screen doesn't appear as "crsip" as the ipad. Comparing the two its obvious that the xoom is a 1st gen product while the ipad is abit slicker and more responsive. I think after a few revisions (and when HTC gets into it hehe) the android tablets are going to be monsters. USB compatability to mount as a hard drive, HD out, being able to use the tablet as its own machine instead of as an accessory like the ipad. This is whats going to really set it apart. Its just too early and the hardware/software just isn't there yet for android tablet.
