You have a P series too?! We have so much in common

surfing the web with your mobile is supposed to be a last resort. A compromise if you may.

What do you expect from a freaking phone? to be able to hook up your Ps2 TOOL kit and use it as a host , as well?! :p

Well apart from launching a phone with a name that belongs to someone else. Apple might have another suit on their hands...

Interesting. Although from looking at the review websites, the LG was only announced around mid-december and nobody is sure whats on the inside or how it works. It's basically the same scenario as the iphone, just announced a couple of weeks earlier. As strikingly similar as they seem, it would appear that they were both thought up and designed independently (I doubt apple could copy the LG in 2-3 weeks). It will be interesting to see how it plays out and which one has better features.

Yeah, I thought it funny about the name thing! You'd think they'd have got it ages ago in anticipation!

I agree with the phone being a phone thing, it is getting ridiculous. And why do people expect phones to get smaller all the time? They get TOO small! I want something where I can actually use the buttons, and if the phone has extra features, then yeah I expect it to be bigger. We should be comparing this to a PDA, not a standard phone.

Incidentally, what IS the space between your ear and your mouth exactly, guys? I make it around 4 - 5 inches. Too big???!!? How exactly?!?

I went into the Apple store in New York, to try and find the toilet. It took a while to find them! If you do go in for the same reason, I'd suggest asking a member of staff....

"I see you have iPods, iPhones, iSkins, iMacs.... where can iPiss?"

I'm very happy to hear this, as I will never go with Cingular, ever, because it's a company filled with thieves. One of my friends was fired from there for (get this) he was selling too many phones, thus they had to pay him too much money in comission. So if you work for them you better not do a good job.

That simply doesn't make sense as the per-phone profit would cover the comision payments and Cingular would still net more income than it would if the phones never sold. Companies are in business to make money, not leave it on the table. There's obviously something here that your friend neglected to tell you.

You would think so, but that's what the guy who fired him told me (who is also a good friend.) He later quit before he was to be let go becasue the company was trying to pin fraud on him for giving customers too many discounts, however he says they were allowed a certain quota every month he never went over. So I don't know.

Some quick news about the iPhone, first it's going to be more difficult to code for it than a game console

Press reports today said the phone will not accept third-party applications, though Apple may allow third parties to program mini-application "widgets."

Plus it seems the hardware is entirely taiwanese made, according to digitimes:

Possible contract makers and component suppliers for iPhone

    Assembly
    Foxconn, FIH*

    PCB
    Unimicron Technology, Tripod Technology

    Camera module
    Lite-On Technology, Primax Electronics

    Camera lens
    Largan Precision

    Magnesium-alloy case
    Catcher Technology, Foxconn Technology

    Connector
    Foxlink, Entery Industry

    Push button
    Sunrex Technology

    Memory module
    A-Data Technology*, Transcend Information*
    USB IC
    Alcor Micro*, Phison Electronics*

    Passive component
    Cyntec*

    Quartz component
    TXC*

And finally, Cingular says they're going to give the iphone extra protection against unlockers, so nobody can escape...

Oh man, I have been there several times (in that situation, not the Apple store). There is no where to go unless you walk 7 or 8 blocks down to McDonalds. Although it was closed when I last went, Barnes and Noble down the road offer a restroom. Phew!

It's official: the iPhone is a Synapics ripoff, check it out:

Not only points and taps but also shapes and complex movements, together with multi-point input. A phone call to Onyx can be answered by simply holding it to your cheek, messages sent by swiping them off the screen with the whole finger.

Either apple bought the patent/idea from synaptics or they just stole it, I'll go for the second.

Honestly, is there anything invented by apple, beyond the apple II and some minor apps? The GUI is from Xerox and there were many HD-based MP3s before the iPod...

Funny thing is that slashgear thought this tech would be used in the iPhone yet most people thought it was a stupid idea. RDF anyone?

Well it looks good to me. This coming from a N-gage QD owner (2 years). You know what? I wanted to but an ipod but now i'll just buy this. And about having it on you all the time cause its a phone, thats why its so appealing to me at least. The n-gage had music and supported emulators (nes, gameboy, master system). So on those unexpected waits or whatever, I had the n-gage with me and instead of saying i wish i had my ipod, DS, PSP whatever, i could listen to music and play games. But.... the size it's kinda big. No confirmed games (i don't know how one would play anyway with the on screen touch controls, anyway) and no third party (probably no emulators). Still i'm on prepaid cause i text mostly but i do have cingular and have been thinking of getting a plan, so this might the catalyst for me getting a plan.
