I myself have about 30 different MSX systems and 5 various russian ZX Spectrum clones (custom designs as well as factory made). I also own a respectable collection of complete MSX cartridge games and many interesting and unique periferials. I'm just curious if any of you guys have similar interests.
I've had a Yamaha CX5M MSX unit for about a year and a half, and only about a week ago did I finally hack up my own AV cable for it so I could use the damn thing! Then I went and ordered a copy of Dragon Quest. :icon_bigg I find the machines to be completely fascinating, and I'm going to start collecting more for them - it's good to know there's someone one the forums I can harass with questions. BTW, let me know if you ever decide to sell any interesting MSX carts - or a MSX2 unit. ;-)
I really really like computers from that era, though I no longer have anything related, and it's hard to come by. I do love the stuff, though, and I'm going to look at your collection with severe and serious envy.
hell, anything obscure....sadly, i have not yet located a place that i can find any good old pc's...i mainly enjoy the history of them, i think the Acorn Archimedias(is that spelt correctly) would be fairly high on my "want" list also Old-computers.com has a great museum with every concieveable pc Ryan
I have about 20-25 pc's. My favorite is the IBM 8085... It's what they used to design the X86 processor.
Meh...I guess I like the more mainstream 8 bits. I have a stack of Atari 8 bits around my house...and a beautiful XEGS here at school. I've always wanted to get into Amiga though (yeah yeah, sixteen bit, I know). A few friends have them...and they're so neat. I'll probably go for a CD32 in the end though (gotta complete that console collection). MSX always interested me, but they're not exactly big on the US...and for some reason I don't have much desire to import PCs...I guess I'm just a console guy. Anyhoo, I have a pile o' colecovision stuff anyway...and as I understand it, it's functionally VERY similar to MSX.
Not seriously into them, but NEC's older range of PC-88 and PC-98 systems holds something of a fascination... Though it's probably because there's lots of Falcom games on them. ^_^ Also, I'm fairly sure the first version of Bomberman came out on some ancient NEC computer (it wasn't the Spectrum as many believe!). I'm by no means an expert on such things though. Just a casual fan. Can someone put a link here to the collection pics topic? I'd like to see some images of those Russian Spectrum clones.
Im looking at getting an Acorn of some description too when I get some monies, probably a RiscPC 700. I wouldnt mind getting an MSX2, ideally one that is compatible with the Laserdisc unit...and one of them too....geh. How.
The only old computer I love is MSX. But that is because it was superb, and some games on it are still to this day.
MSX rocks I have a Yamaha one since 1985, my first videogame system:crying:, I was 7 at that time. I sold my Konami games for peanuts a long time ago, I miss Penguin Adventure so much... If you have good stuff to show that'd be great Sabre
I want an acorn too, If only because its the only thing I ever remember using at infant and junior school - I didn't experience windows at school until 98, the year before I left junior school! I have very fond memories of being "The kid who could find cool stuff" on the acorns during wet breaks. Those lovely PC's hold a lot of nostalgia with me
Sure you can get some very nice ones, also have a PC 486 card fitted to run win95 & classic pc games. I remember at school the sheer wonder of finding Acorn games to play, the few times we were aloud to or gathered round so the IT teacher wouldnt see us zoom down on Fervour
I've got several old machines, nothing super rare though. I guess the least common would be my Z88 or my CGI M5 - and neither of those are hard to get hold of! I did have a Sinclair PC200 promised to me! Must try and claim that!
I had a pretty rare 8bit computer called dragon. or perhaps dragoon. I think it was released in the early eighties. Or maybe it wasn´t that rare?
I have an Atari Portfolio with parallel and serial interface. but I think it's a 16bit system, isn't it? http://oldcomputers.net/pics/portfolio.jpg
I'd love to get my hands on a PC-88 one day, but with eBay and shipping, it seems that the best occasion for me to do that (barring the unlikely even of stumbling across one in a thrift store) would be to actually go to Japan, in which case I might as well get an X68000 while I'm at it.
